I'm a single guy who is introverted and shy. I don't like being alone, but I just happen to have bad people skills so making friends is hard for me. Consequently, this causes me to feel lonely.

My parents and brothers live in North Carolina. Currently, I am working in Atlanta, GA which is 9 hours away from my family. I have been working here for 8 months, and have not made any friends here the whole time.

Now, my employer wants me to move to Dallas, TX which is currently 13 hours from where I live now. This will put me at 21 hours away from my family in North Carolina.

I won't be able to see my loved ones unless I buy plane tickets, because I can't drive 21 hours to see them. This will raise the cost of living because I won't be able to not see my family ever. And, with no one to keep me company, I fear that my mental health will worsen.

I have asked if I will be getting a salary raise for making the move down there, but I haven't gotten a confirmation for this yet.

Considering my condition, the fact that I have bad people skills, I will not likely make any friends in this new place either, possible detriment to my mental health, and this nation's economy, is it worth making a move? How much of percentage increase in pay would you demand if you were in my situation?

Also, consider the alternative to moving. They haven't told me what would happen if I refused to move, but worst-case scenario is that I get fired. I have been looking for work elsewhere, but I currently don't have any jobs lined up for me, so if the let me go then I will become jobless.

I currently have bills that I have to pay, so I can't really afford to go jobless right now, but I don't know what will happen to me if I move to Dallas, Texas. I am genuinely concerned that I might suffer psychological damage that will never be repaired, due to what kind of person that I am.

Other people might be able to handle this situation, but I'm not them. I'm me.

I'm not going to say that it's guaranteed that moving to Texas will be all bad for me. But, I don't know what the future holds. I can only try to predict what is likely to happen based on past experiences.

Would anyone else be willing to make this move if they were like me, and in my position?
