In 2018, my friend's maternal grandmother passed away. She recently found out her grandmother never liked her father.

However, she never gossiped bad things about him, never argued with him nor ever openly expressed her dislike about him to her daughter. She kept it all to herself, never trusted him with money and play along with always being nice and respectful towards him. Neither of them knew about her dislike until their daughter (my friend) showed them her private diary. She was already dead by then. Apparently she went along with the saying ''if you can't beat them, join in'' and was a believer in keeping negative comments (unless it's something serious) to yourself. She simply wanted to keep the peace and not create any acrimony in the family.

Do you agree with that stance?

Starting at the age of 9, I was allowed to walk home from school and vice-versa alone, go with my friend to a huge shopping mall and return late in the afternoon, stay home alone for several hours (a couple times till the evening... I already knew how to cook some things), walk several blocks to the park, talk a public transportation to several places, etc.

In my parents' view, I was a kid with street smarts that already knew basic rules such as not trusting nor opening the door to strangers. Meanwhile my boyfriend and best friend think differently. They think my parents just got lucky nothing happened to me. In your opinion, were they too trusting?

Husband has best friend (girl), messages her constantly day and night, has his phone glued to him. "Is a relationship over all based on seeing messages when asked?, he asks when I ask to see the messages." I want to trust him, but he denies for me to see his messages (3 times) asking me that same question over and over. He has full access to mine, I have nothing to hide. Instead of saying "yes, go ahead" keeps telling me, I put the ring on your finger and I don't care if they like me I'm married to you. I feel as if he is seeking others attention.

You may have a best friend, or partner, who is an exception. But if you look in totality, now or throughout your lifetime, do you feel more comfortable expressing all/many parts of yourself to your same sex, or the opposite sex?

Who do you feel more often accepted, appreciated, supported, or understood by?

And did you start out feeling one way, but now feel you have been wronged too many times, or too deeply, and that has altered your trust in them, away from your natural inclination?
(I suspect many of you fall into this thinking. I've heard many of you speak on this.
But don't let that influence you.)
