Are guys more likely to be honest about their feelings during sex (because they may be less inhibited) or are they things they say during sex lies they say during the heat of the moment?

The other night during phone sex, my boyfriend (who has already told me that he loves me before) asked me how much I loved him. I said, "With all of my heart." I asked him how much he loved me, and he said, "To infinity." I was on cloud nine. The next night something came up that made me ask him if he had meant what he had said the night before. He said he didn't. He just said it in the heat of the moment. That he doesn't think you can put an amount on how much you love someone. That it should just matter that he does, in fact, love me. Was he being extremely open and honest during phone sex or was he lying?
