For the past several weeks I have been hearing about Tiffany Trump's Nigerian boyfriend. This whole time I thought she was dating a black dude. Finally, I decided to google his picture, it turns out the dude is a fair skinned Lebanese.

Do you think people should refer to him as Nigerian or Lebanese?

This is the same with Algerian people living in France. They call themselves "French", even though they are not ethnically.

Same with the Netherlands Antilles. I was once trying to explain the differences between white ethnic Dutch on Aruba and Mulato Arubans. And people kept telling me, "What are you talking about? Arubans ARE Dutch!" By nationality, but not by ethnicity. So you see how it can get confusing.

Or you read, "American tourist killed in Mexico", but than you see this tourist's name in Julio Morales.

Or recently, "French man commits terror attack in Strasbourg", than I saw the guy's name and it was some Middle Eastern name.


I personally think ethnicity is more important than nationality. Like I don't tell people I'm American, I tell them I'm Polish. When they ask where I'm FROM, I tell them USA. Sometimes I say, "I was born in the US but my family is Polish."

I don't know, what do YOU guys think? Ethnicity or nationality.
