We briefly met at a mutual friend's event and started talking because he recently moved near me. I first brought up the idea of getting coffee, but it was him that actually initiated making plans. We got coffee, talked for a couple of hours, and left with a hug goodbye. Later I texted him that I had a good time and we should hang out again. He agreed and we decided to meet again on a weeknight, but the day before he asked if we could do Saturday (today) because his work schedule changed last minute. I agreed and now we're going to get dinner tonight.

I don't know if this matters, but both times we would choose a certain day to meet but neither one of us plans what we are going to do until the day before. We both work long hours and I know that for me, I don't have the mental stamina to plan something more than 12 hours ahead at a time haha. I don't know if that's true for him or if I just want it to be true? We've also never used the word 'date' before.

I'm hoping it's a date but I don't want to assume anything or go in with wrong expectations.

Is this something you would do with a person you just met because you wanted to be friends or because you had romantic interest in them (i. e. a date)?
