In this situation you get to be in my dad's shoes about 22 years ago.

You and your wife just had your first child. You take your kid home after a few days and then rush the kid back to the hospital after barely a week at home. You learn your child had a stroke. Doctors prepare you for the end. They tell you your child has a 25% chance of surviving. They tell you that your child will likely not be able to live on its own, will need care forever, won't be able to hear, and could be mute. They tell you that your child will not be a normal child.

The child is connected to tubes and wires and machines.

The child stays in the hospital for 3 months.

The doctors come to your room every Monday to tell you and your spouse about your child's progress and the plans for the next week.

My dad chose not to be present for these meetings and instead had my mom recieve the news (both good and bad) alone. And by chose, I mean chose. He works with his brother and could have easily taken off every Monday or the entire 3 months (his brother even told him to) but he elected to stay away during those meetings because he didn't like hearing the news. He also didn't let any family or friends visit while I was in the hospital. He didn't want them to see me that way. To this day there are no pictures of me from ages 12 days - 3 months. They simply don't exist. He didn't want any memories of them.

If I mention my stroke he gets angry. He doesn't like thinking about it.

I just found out that he wasn't there during the doctor meetings (he came every day and everything, but refused to be there with my mom to meet with the doctor). I found that surprising because I feel like a parent would want to be there every second during a time like that...

But my question for you is how would you handle it? Would you handle it like my dad did or would you handle it differently?

My dad's a good dad. I'm his favorite (sounds silly but it's true) and so it just surprised me when I heard that he excluded himself from that part of my life lol

He did the same thing when my youngest brother was born not breathing. He distanced himself from him for the week or so where they had gotten him breathing and until he was out of the woods. Then he came around and allowed himself to get attached.

It's his defense mechanism.

We have mutual friend in facebook and that is how he saw my profile. It was love at first sight he said. But then, it took 3 months before I confirmed his friend request and he started conversation. He is a medic student and 4 year older than me. I plan that before we met , I should know him at least for a month. We talk a lot of things. After a month, he sent me a copy of his letter that he will be leaving soon because of their school issues that it will be closed. He said, he is sad because he can't see me anymore. I said, its okay we can meet before you leave. On our first date, we are shy to each other. I seem taller than him. lol. But sooner, when we watched movie together he saw me that I am so sleepy. He put my head on his shoulder. he is a gentleman guy. After that we went to restaurant and he gave me a gift. It is a Bible and love quote written inside , his name and my name. He said that he wishes to have me if its God's plan. I was shocked how a guy gave those stuffs. I feel special and really thought he is an amazing guy. It was already 10pm and my dad called me to go home and dropped me home. He wanted to meet my family to explain why i went home late but I said not for now, my parents are very strict. And so he said, can we meet on another again, I said Yes. On our second date, he bought a ticket for his plane and very busy to his requirements. And that is why, he was very late on our second date but I understand him. We went to mountain and it was very cold. He hugged me to lessen the cold of my body and people are beggining to noticed us. We plan to transfer in another cottage. And there he court me and saying he is serious to me. I said, but u will be leaving tomorrow what if ull changed ur mind and find other girls there.

Im 19 i still live with my parents (they want me out) im not in school i dont have a job i just graduated 2 weeks ago and got my drivers license i live in kansas so its not too far away and my best friend just moved to texas also and he will going to school there and i have family in texas and a lot of online friends that live there xD (dont worry we Skype there is like 7 of them so im like ayee it would be cool to finally meet them) and i was thinking maybe there might be more opportunity for me there because i want to go to school to do theater and beauty makeup and i live in a really small town and that doesn't really make my dreams possible but she told me this last night i haven't talked to my friend in months cause she's went to mexico and she just came back and her dad wants her to move back to texas in like 3 weeks and that doesn't leave me much time to think for such a big decision but k
im believer and i feel like things always happen for a reason and this might be a sign lol but can someone please tell me what your input is on this whole crazy mess xD
