My boyfriend (well now future husband) disagrees and in his own words ''I'm marrying you, I'm not marrying your parents nor anyone else''. Also, he explains how for so many years he's wasted time impressing others and he's tired of that already. He stated that from now on he'll just treat others how they treat him. If he's disrepected than he will not respect that person, regardless of who it is.

Long ago, my parents' dislike towards him cause some issues in the relationship. However, according to him the major reason he broke up once is because I didn't stand up to him too much at the time and he was getting tired of trying to give a good impression. He wanted to just be himself and screw the ''impress us, eat our crappy treatment till you prove us wrong and be patience'' thing.

Meanwhile, I never had to work hard nor prove myself to his family nor anyone else close to him. His friends and family liked me (and still do) from the start and all they care is that he's happy. Though, if I were disliked I would at least tried a bit to give out a good impression.
