Search Results: getting out of touch with friends

Right, simply put I used to be really close friends with this person back in college, and when we finished college we kept in touch on FB, but that summer we did not meet up once like we use to in college because they were too busy. I left town for a uni a long way away and we still kept in touch, and when I came back for winter, I asked if they wanted to catch up in person, but they were too busy again. I tried again to arrange a meet up at Easter, but they too busy again. I asked if this was their way of saying they don't want to hang out but they insisted they do, but they were too busy. Let me clarify, when I say meet up, I only mean getting lunch or seeing a movie of something together, nothing so demanding once every 3 months or so. I'm back home for the summer and was wondering should I even bother asking if they want to hang out since the answer will be more than likely the same as before and at this point I just feel like an optional friend (They do message me from time to time first and remember occasions like my Birthday, but still...).
