My aunt was raised with overprotective parents. They wouldn't even let her sleepover not even with a female friend. She would secretly date her HS sweetheart. Her uncle caught them making out once and made a big scene, dragging her all the way home, yelling about how that's not how young ladies behave, told her parents about it, etc. She got banned from seeing her boyfriend. Her parents were too focused on her waiting till marriage, never drinking nor smoking, that type of upbringing.

Result:
She didn't wait till marriage.
Her HS sweetheart wasn't her first and only boyfriend ever.
She was into parties for a bit as an adult, enjoying the freedom she never had.
She married her 4th boyfriend, a very liberal man.

Liberal/permissive style
She and her husband only had a daughter and she was raised in the liberal manner. She was allowed to go on camping trips and excursions (far from home) with friends, went out on a date at the age of 14 for the first time, didn't have a curfew and at the age of 16 got lectured about safe sex. My aunt didn't want to make the same mistake her family did to her.

Result:
She got pregnant at the age of 18 with her 3rd boyfriend.
Her ex boyfriend still pays child support and is in contact with the child often.
She's now 27, married with another guy and they have 2 kids.
My aunt and her husband thinks they exceeded on her liberalism.

Obviously neither extreme is good but which do you think is worse? Overprotective or very liberal parents?

So my boyfriend and I had a funny thought about weddings.

My boyfriend and I were watching Bridezillas (he hates it, but it's my guilty pleasure), and we were already talking about our wedding. Plans are to be engaged after a year (so September), but he kept saying that it would be fun for me to plan it and pick everything, but just run it past him. Then I told him it was our wedding so he should help, and he agreed. But I told him that he didn't really see it as 'his' because he doesn't want to participate. He just wants to reserve the right to say 'no'. And I told him most guys are like that. They get pissy about the 'my wedding' attitude brides have, but most guys don't actually help plan anything. The woman does, and the man is along for the ride to say yes or no. But they don't have an opinion on anything. They want it picked out for them and presented to them so they can approve or deny it.

He sat there for a moment, laughed, and eventually admitted I was right. He doesn't really want to look at flowers or go to cake tastings or pick out silverware. He just wants to try the food and pick the venue with me, but do nothing else. But he wants to have an opinion. So basically I go out and find everything, present it to him, and he can say yes or no. He has 3 brothers, all have been married, and they were like that. My sister's husband was like that. My dad was like that. He was in 3 friend's wedding, and he said every one of his friends were like that.

Guys, why are you like this when it comes to weddings? OR are you?

I've been friends with my bestfriend for over 10 years
We are the same age (25)

I've had 3 relationships
she's never had a boyfriend

she's met all my ex boyfriends

She always tells me that she's not into relationships
So she has one night stands/friends with benefits
Never met any of her guys

But she is bisexual
So she's hooked up with guys and girls
she's kind of a tomboy

I've had some messy breakups
And in every relationship, there's always ups and downs
Its normal
Since she's my best friend, I tell her whenever Im going through relationship problems

But what annoys me is that.. she's always negative about relationships and guys when she's never had a relationship before

She would tell me like:
- oh guys are such idiots/always just want to f**k
- all your relationships are shit and never worked out.. thats why I dont want to be in one
- marriage will never work out, I dont know why people get married
- I love bad boys, I always fall for them
- judging from your relationships, all guys are not worth it
- I dont want a relationship, so Im sleeping around.. so much better
- why do you date gym guys? They are all f**kboys and messed up

It just annoys me when she says those things

Im turning 25
And my boyfriend is 28

I still live with my parents
I come from an Asian background
And my parents believe I should move out when Im married

My boyfriend lives with a housemate
But wants us to move in together
To get a place for us both

He said me living with my parents makes me look non-independent and still a child
Since Im 25 this year

I got so angry at him when he said that

Does it make me "immature" and "non-independent" if Im still living with my parents at home?
