As adults, we should all take full responsibility of our faults. There is no good reason to sit in self-pity and blame others. However, there is a lot of benefit in understanding why, or how these faults were formed.

Personally, I feel that a good portion, if not the majority of social anxiety comes from overprotective parents. I think "Don't talk to strangers" is actually a very unhealthy thing to teach children. For me, it goes beyond that. My mom's own social anxiety kept me from participating in boy scouts. In fact, I didn't get involved in any extra curriculars. By the time I was in middle school, I was a background character. As a young adult, I struggled to make eye contact.

In short, I wasn't given the support I needed to develop social skills. I know that technology has made it easier for us to spend our time alone, but I don't see that as a root cause. What causes do you think contribute social anxiety?

If you don't experience, or have never experienced social anxiety, what do you think contributed to that?

From what I've seen, I believe it's clearly women as men are expected to be the hard worker, provider, have everything together, spoil her, be good in bed, be great looking, have perfect social skills, be a great talker, and have a lot of friends, whereas all men expect from women is that they aren't wildly unhealthy, and show a bit of compassion and appreciation for the work they do. Who do you think benefits more from relationships?
