I've liked this girl for more than a few months now, I have a few classes with her and even though we aren't the best of friends, we have some good conversations here and there. On our school camp last week, there was a kind of dance/social event thing where we were all encouraged to take a date. So I worked up my nerve and asked her to go with me. As it turns out, she'd already said yes to another guy. She let me down easy, I smiled and played it off like no big deal. So the dance night goes by, she and this guy look happy to be with each other, and then the next day I don't even see them making eye contact. We got a motivational speech about relationships or whatever that day and as I looked at this guy (who I'm not close friends with, but still talk to from time to time. He's pretty cool and well liked by most people) he seemed anxious or lost in thought for most of it. I got the impression that he was thinking about her and that something may have happened between them that he wasn't happy about. The dance wasn't necessarily a romantic thing for everyone who took a partner - but I feel that if I wait to tell her how I really see her, the same situation will come up again, except this time she'll be taken permanently. So I want to tell her, but I don't know how to go about doing it. What are your thoughts?

She said she had this dance thing she was doing, a fundraser for a friend who passed. She asked if I'd wanna see her perform. I was like yes! So i'm thinking it's gonna be on a stage right, now it's in this little night club on the floor. She asked if I could record it and hold on to her bag. I did. I'm a shy introverted guy and I've never felt more out of place and uncomfortable in my life. i've never been to a club like this, the music was so loud, she knew everyone, I knew no one. After a while she asked if i was going to dance, I said maybe, but I never did. Everybody, especially her, was very good, they practiced a lot. I have no idea how to dance. So i just chilled until we left. she was very happy I came to support her, but now the next day I feel I missed a chance to impress her, to show we have something in common and I'm not boring. In my mind I think if I tried it would've gone perfect but at the time I wasn't into it and I'm not good at faking it. If we go again I'll try... So do you think I missed an opportunity or this doesn't matter as much to her as I'm thinking in my head? Does this ever happen to you? How much in common do you like to be with your SO? Sorry that I rambled a bit!

I've experienced this a couple of times. It was either because I had feelings for a person who didn't feel the same way back or because we broke up and I still had feelings. Whenever I met/saw that person (either an ex or someone who I had feelings for that didn't have feelings for me) I almost always was distant, cold, tried to ignore any sort of confrontation or any situation where I had to speak to them. If I did find myself talking to them, I'd almost always act polite, but also very distanced and even a bit irritated. There's only one time I truly was irritated and rude and that was towards a girl who dumped me and now had a new boyfriend, and that was because I was really hurting.

I've also experienced meeting up with someone who I had nothing for anymore. You know, when you're either completely over that person or you never truly felt anything in the first place. Towards those girls, I'd act nice, normal, kind. I would talk to them, joke with them. Although I liked them as a friend/ex, I felt indifferent towards them. Didn't care too much if I ever saw them again or if they wanted to maintain a friendship or not.

Now, those two scenarios are really what's been going through my head after I recently met a girl I had a fling with. We were over, but I still had feelings for her when we met up at a party of a friend of ours. Same night, she'd act normal, but a little cold and distant. I kept to myself, talked to other girls and she would then seem a bit jealous. At one point, she would be really mean towards me and then she would ignore me and dance with another guy at the party. She would deliberatly hug him when I looked, but then she would also act irritated when talking to me. When I confronted her, and told her I was hurt by her behaviour, because I felt something for her, she said she doesn't have feelings for me. Then when I said I think we should stop talking and cut contact, she stormed off angry as hell.
