I've always been one who believes that if there is no emotionally romantic connection or physical attraction, a straight male and female are capable of being good friends. I personally have close male friends whom I've known for years who I enjoy hanging out with and getting a male prespecive/advice on certain things. Though there have been 3 that have come to say they liked me, and there was a time where I thought I was falling for 1, we kept things mature in talking feelings out and all occasions except 1 did we test things out only to learn that we're meant to be friends. I'd also say that I have a somewhat equal amount of male and female friends and have 2 relatively close guy friends that I have NEVER had any interest in (and No, they are not butt ugly.)

However I've been seeing this question pop up a countless amount of times and I've been reading otherwise and seeing "rules" around the topic, like it's diffrent if the two are single/if both are in a relationship/or if one is single and the other isn't. I've also read that if one thinks that tgey are merly just friends... they're dead wrong as in some point of tge friendship one or tge other has developed a crush.

What's you're take on it? Are YOU able to keep a friendship with the opposite sex without falling for/fantasizing about him/her?

Look, maybe I'm imagining things but I feel like the moment I reacted the age of 14 having a platonic relationship between a guy and a girl became nearly impossible.

Since a young age I was always a nerd, and as many of you might know it's hard to come by 6 year old girls who are willing to play GTA so from a young my friend group was pretty limited to all guys.

It was only in the last year of middle school that I finally started developing some decent female friendships and then highschool came and it all crushed down. All my childhood guy friends decided to go to a different highschool then I did and I was pretty much stuck in this new environment, surrounded by my new female friends.

And that was the moment I started noticing something odd.

You see, I don't want to brag or anything but I consider myself to be quite good looking, in fact, I've been asked to model a couple of times just like my mother did when she was younger. But I almost never got hit on during middle school.

I always blamed it on me probably not looking good enough or guys preferring the more provocative type of girls which would roam the school rather then an art/theater loving nerd.

But when I entered highschool it all changed, and I mean, REALLY changed.

I'm a pretty friendly individual so I like to walk around classes and talk to different people, and so, surely enough, I soon got acquaintanced with a couple of guys. At first I didn't think much of it, I only thought that I'm making new friends and that's all, but turns out the guys had a different thoughts in mind since they began confessing to me, one after the other, and after being rejected they would stop talking to me and pretend as if I wasn't even around.

Now, I'm scared of attempting to talk to any guys that I'm interested in only as a friend since it always ends up in the same way.

So here is my question, do platonic relationships with guys stop existing after a certain age or there is simply something wrong with me?

Based on experience I can 100% say males make better friends. As a straight female I've noticed that my male friends are never backstabbers and don't create drama. They don't get jealous or pick fights while my female friends do. I've always felt that I have more in common with men and find friendships (platonic) with them more fulfilling. Which sex do you think make better friends?

A lot of men seem to have many female friends. Some have been ex's and some are just women they have met through mutual friends along the way or perhaps even work colleagues. Do you keep in contact with these women such as catching up for a coffee and hanging out together, speaking on the phone, text messaging/Facebook etc for a particular reason?

Sometimes people stay in touch to keep their options open if things don't work out with current partner, some may keep in contact to get sex and intimacy elsewhere perhaps for variety, some may keep in contact simply because they like to get their flirt on and makes them feel wanted and good about themselves and some may just honestly enjoy a platonic friendship?
