So we've all heard oodles and oodles about the "Peter Pan" men in America, who laze about, don't get jobs, or just get dead-end jobs, barely grunging by while our smart ladies work hard and go past the bum men? I mean, this is everyone from Mark Driscoll at that Mars Hill megachurch to Fox News running articles about it.

Turns out there's no such problem, according to the data collected by the Census, looking at single men vs single women.

According to the data for young, unmarried men and women in the USA, they're close, but single women are a tad more likely to be the bum not making any money, or with a miniscule salary, and single men are more likely to make the better salaries. Look at the data. Each link leads to a chart showing, and has the source cited at the bottom, from the US Census.

Overall, if there's a problem with "Peter Pan Men" then by rights, there's a slightly BIGGER problem with "Peter Pan Women" because there's even MORE single women working dead end bum jobs, or earning NOTHING, than there are single men.

Aside from a lousy economy right now, I have to wonder if we aren’t seeing men no longer perceiving heading a family as an incentive to work harder, and therefore--

the real complaint is that single men have started working more like single WOMEN.
