In our era of existence we are living in a very unique time in history. There are some really interesting factors that are happening right now that will change the future of our existence on earth:

  • We are seeing fuel prices rise.
  • We are also seeing our sea levels rise with the continued melting of polar ice.
  • We found water on Mars, and thousands of American military personnel are being killed or injured in two wars being fought right now in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • We may witness the election of America's first African American President.

These are really some exciting events that are taking shape here and now. I know a lot of people may agree or disagree with all of the subjects that I presented, but that's not why I'm writing this.
"The feeling of making a contribution to something greater than yourself is an experience you must have at least once in your life!"

The purpose for all of this is to encourage people my age to do more than just watch it happen. I'm writing all of this to encourage you to get involved. I can remember 10 years ago when I was 18 years old. I had just finished high school, and was ready to take on the world!

Well, much hasn't changed for me except for a few things. I moved to Europe for 4 years, I spent some time in the Middle East, came back to The United States and started knocking out a college education like a UFC fighter at a frat house. In all of this, I have learned a few things that have made it all a great experience.

#1. People within my age group and younger will continue to stay unsatisfied with their government until they become active.

This is not some rally cry to tell you to go out and vote. You can get enough of that somewhere else. Active takes more forms than voting, (which I do encourage!) Activism can open a lot of doors for you as a person and it will help your growth and development not only as an individual, but also with others within your community. If you find issues that interest you, such as the environment, conservation of wildlife, natural resources, Scientology, community volunteering, you name it!

The key is to get involved. The reason I encourage this, is because it allows you to have voice. It eliminates the feelings of being helpless in a world around you. The feeling of making a contribution to something greater than yourself is an experience you must have at least once in your life! I promise it will not disappoint you!

#2. Education is the greatest gift you can ever give yourself.

Learning is a life long experience. And the beauty of it, is that it becomes and addiction. I try to learn something new every day. Somewhere or something, as long as it's new and it's useful. This can be done in a number of ways. College classes, Internet research, library research, etc. The experiences from education will give you a roller coaster of emotions. Excitement of new possibilities, fear of an uncertain future, and heartbreak from discovery of the reality of truth within your life in respects to certain parts of your culture that may not be as great as you were raised to believe. This is very simple. Read, learn, and truly become your own person that chooses your destiny by your own hand.

#3 Travel.

I can't say this enough. Save money and travel to very strange places and spend as much time as you can with strange new people. I moved to Germany and spoke no German and knew nothing about Germans outside of the monster we called Hitler. By moving there, I experienced things not only in Germany, but throughout Europe that were amazing, funny, really weird, sad, and just plain cool. I love traveling and learning about different cultures. My next trip is in South America in June of 2009. My bags are already packed. I live for travel.

"Read, learn, and truly become your own person that chooses your destiny by your own hand."
Those 3 things alone should give you enough change to make you not only a better person, but also a happier one. I learned a great truth that I want to share with you. "The people responsible for the events in our lives that we want to change, become their most vulnerable to us as a force of change when we do what they fear most. Learning."

Arm yourselves with the most deadly of weapons. Knowledge!

Good luck everyone and I hope this helps.
