A veterinary clinic in Consilla, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, has placed an ad for a unique employment opportunity that any cat-lover would gladly pounce on if they were given the chance.
The clinic called Just Cats is seeking a professional “cat cuddler” to help care and show affection to the felines in their care. Aside from being required to be a huge fan and lover of cats, the position itself on the Just Cats website describes requirements as, “gentle hands capable of petting and stroking cats for long periods of time”

However, the Veterinary Council of Ireland has stated that the position must require real qualifications. That hasn’t stopped the job from receiving applications from people around the entire globe. The position has also outlined that candidates should be “…softly spoken and capable of cat whispering to calm the nerves of some of our in patients.”
Do you have the right ‘cattitude’ to apply to this position? The veterinary clinic for cats stated that they are “an equal opportunities employer; however, we do discriminate against dogs attending our veterinary clinic as patients.” This opportunity would place the new applicant in the position of caring for the animals by cuddling them and showing affection. We wonder what the job application process must look like!

The 5yo daughter of liberal parenting blogger, Sachi Feris (author of Raising Race Conscious Children) wanted to dress up as a Disney Princess for Halloween- either Moana or Elsa for Halloween. However, her mum pronounced that she found both costumes problematic, and forbade her from wearing either- in the end, not letting her do anything for Halloween at all- because she found both costumes "problematic". According to Feris, dressing up as the titular character of “Moana” was '#CULTURAL APPROPRIATION', and dressing up as Elsa promoted 'WHITE BEAUTY'.

“I had some reservations regarding both costume choices,” she wrote, “about cultural appropriation and the power/privilege carried by Whiteness, and about Whiteness and standards of beauty.” About the Elsa costume, Feris wrote, “There is one thing I don’t like about the character of Elsa. I feel like because Elsa is a White princess, and we see so many white princesses, her character sends the message that you have to be a certain way to be ‘beautiful’ or to be a ‘princess.'” Both Sachi Feris and her daughter are white. And with regard to the Moana costume, Feris said, “I don’t like the idea of dressing up using the same traditional clothing that someone from Moana’s culture may have worn because that feels like we are laughing at her culture by making it a costume.”

Many people on social media as well as in the comments section of the article supported Feris’s sentiments about “offensive” Halloween costumes, which concluded that “If your Caucasian son or daughter doesn’t get to be exactly what they wanted for Halloween, encourage them to take a step back and realize that they’re awash in privileges that the real Moanas and Tianas of the world will likely never see, because the world is full of racist a–holes.” So then, how do you feel for Sachi Feris' 5yo Caucasian daughter?
