Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

To my fellow rockers and metalheads out there who usually read the takes I make, no worries, this won't stray away from the musical side as much as you think XD

So yes, I am proud to say I'm a pretty weird chick. I have surely carried on weirdness my entire life. But it seemed to stand out even more when I was little.

As young as 2 or 3, I was already watching graphic, bloody horror movies. By the time I learned to talk I sang whatever heavy song would come on in the car radio or CD player, no matter how vulgar the words were. I've been told by many that I have an old soul, from all that and simply how I am these days with the music I love, and more. But even when watching scary, horrific stuff as a little runt I still had some things I feared of big time. Some simply didn't make sense. Wanna here them? Read on!

So the list below is in no order of importance. I'll give some explanations for each thing though.

1. Beavis from "Beavis and Butthead"

I love this show now. But when I was little, Beavis scared the crap outta me. I remember a band mate of my dad's stayed at our house for awhile, and that was a cartoon he watched. I came into the room while it played one day, and I see this creepy dude with this stupid grin saying "FIRE! FIRE! he heheh he hmm heh hm FIRE!" from what him and Butthead were watching on TV. I think they were watching a Megadeth video. Anyway, yeah. I left the room right away. By the time I saw it again, I was 14, and I thought "wait, this show is awesome!"

2. Angus Young on AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" album art.

Yeah, weird. By the time the album "Black Ice" was released in 2008, it was huge. I remember Walmart having a whole section dedicated to AC/DC, with shirts, guitar hero stuff, CDs, whatever AC/DC stuff you could think of, it was there. And scattered through the whole store. I remember my dad picking me up and carrying me though the area, and eventually though the electronics section, near the CDs. At the end of a CD aisle was cardboard type shelving, holding a bunch of AC/DC albums. As we walked by, I saw on the side of the shelving was the "Highway To Hell" artwork. I saw Angus Young. I didn't physically show panic, but mentally? Yeah its a good thing the world couldn't hear that. That night I went to bed thinking about what he looked like. I couldn't sleep. Who knew that 7 years later, in 2015, I would end up buying that "Highway To Hell" album as my first AC/DC CD to own.

3. Jigsaw from the "Saw" movies.

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

You'd probably think little me would have been more scared about other things in the "Saw" movie franchise. Forget about it. That damn puppet was a nightmare. To be honest, it still bothered me a little just to put this picture up on this take. The reason why he terrified me was the commercials for the first Saw movie. All the promo was, was Jigsaw's puppet face coming up on a static-like screen. It meant to look like a mysterious broadcast interruption. It would just be his face on the screen for a moment, then it would disappear and go to a different commercial. That promo showed A LOT. Like 2 or 3 times in each commercial break. First few times I saw it, I was like "eh". But then it kept on, to the point where when it happened again I screamed and literally jumped on top of my dad, scared to death. After that, it was ruined for me man. Really I've watched most of the "Saw" movies, and I think they are awesome. I eventually was able to tolerate Jigsaw. But still, even to this day, he still gets me feeling at least a little uneasy.

4. A "Courage The Cowardly Dog" episode.

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

Sorry people, I don't remember the name of this episode. But it was where Courage's computer came to life completely. I got scared thinking our computer would do the same thing. Ours even looked like Courage's! It was that one with the boxy monitor from 1999, with the tower and all. same color too. The desktop picture was just a solid blue. And it always had this low "rrrriiiiiii" sound to it the whole time it was ever on. Little me was afraid it could come to life and try to hurt us. Jeez.

5. Having a TV off.

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

Yes that sounds stupid as hell. But really, I was always scared to be in a room where the TV would be off. Or if it got turned off while I was there. Why? I let my imagination run wild. I would instantly feel like someone or something scary would run down the hallway (near the TV) to get me, or that creepy faces would come on the screen. It sucked by the time I had a TV in my room around age 8. It was an old TV from 1976. Wasn't made to have a remote. Had a perfect picture for a few years. But every time I turned it off, the screen would glow in the dark for awhile. That didn't make things better. I had that TV till just recently, when it literally started smoking up and the screen literally looked like lightning. But we still have it, because its working again for some reason. Wtf. Not in my room anymore though haha XD In fact, the tv pictured above looks nearly the same as the one I had.

6. Porcelain dolls.

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

For many years, I had dolls like these in my room. Till around age 12. I hated them, though some were made from some loving family members who are now dead. But some dolls had the ability where if you lean them back, their eyes would shut. But yeah, between that and having a TV in my room at age 8, it was hard to sleep. But I forced myself to adapt.

7. The White Zombie song "Real Solution #9"

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

This scared me stiff. Literally. For those who don't know, White Zombie was a groove metal band from the late 80s to the middle 90s. I first heard this song when I was around 10 years old. I was cleaning my room. My mom let me listen to her metal CDs on my CD player. I had the White Zombie album "Astro-Creep 2000" playing. And I was in my closet getting stuff out. The song that came on didn't bother me at first. But when he started singing? It terrified me!! I sat frozen through half of it, then ran to turn it off. Listen to the song, and you may know why it would scare a kid. These days it doesn't bother me at all. But its still a song I don't like.

8. The intro music to "X-Files"

Some of the Weirdest Things That Scared Me as a Kid

My mom loved this show. Still does. I watched it a lot with her, I loved it too. But I would literally scream and go into panic mode every time I would hear the music play and see the light go across that stupid X. Even the X seemed creepy to me. I remember one night in my room where I was trying to sleep. And I heard the music playing from the living room. I thought I was going to die that night. It was worse when it played in stores around Halloween.

So yes, I had some weird fears as a kid. I'm glad I'm not such a scaredy cat with those anymore. Did you guys and gals have weird ones as well when you were little kids? Don't hesitate to say! I don't judge XD

And there's an extra thing I want to mention for the rockers and metalheads here...

so I mentioned earlier in the take about Angus Young. I'm planning that my next take will be about him. Called "Angus Young: AC/DC's Crazy Little Devil" I already have a bunch more other takes that aren't about the band that I have planned, BUT I am open to more requests. But only requests that are AC/DC related. So if you have any ideas for AC/DC takes you wanna see, let me know!!

Rock on, stay metal! \m/
