One of the Biggest Updates of Girls Ask Guys has been completed! Let's take a look at it.

Hello everyone!

We've come up with the biggest update we've made in a long time to provide a better experience for our ever evolving and growing community. GAG is becoming a more user-friendly, more interactive, and interesting site.

So, what's changed on GAG?

Our logo has changed!

Now, Girls Ask Guys has a simpler logo.

Asking Question is getting faster!

You will be able to easily access the Ask a Question page from the homepage without having to worry about the details. If you want to, you can still add more details and change more settings by clicking on the plus button in the lower left corner of the ''ask question'' page.

Now, you can ask your question without adding any details, just by adding a title and clicking on the ''Ask Now'' button. But remember, when you click Ask Now, your question will be shared directly without seeing any preview screen, so be careful!

Username designs are simplified.

There are no longer gender colors in user names. Your gender color will be distinguished by the pink and blue stripes around the profile photo.

New Update, New Homepage!

Now, we have a simple homepage structure where you can see all featured content together instead of separate columns for Questions, myTakes, Polls and Top Posts.

In addition, as many users requested, you can now like the posts directly on the home page and see the number of likes of the posts there.

The user profiles and notifications menu have also changed.

We simplified the user menu and made it more user-friendly for you. Pages that are not used very frequently will no longer be included under the profile menu and the ones you use more frequently will come to the forefront.

Why did you take the Pink and Blue colours out of the name though? You're literally called "Girls Ask Guys" Pink and Blue made it easy, and backed up the standard colours.

The new logo is boring, white and blue like Facebook -_-

Not to mention on the app isn't working great for me. The screen twitches whilst im trying to respond to a question, as i'm typing it'll move, to let me know there are new questions being asked above this question I'm trying to answer.

The notification bell is too close to the profile name, and i end up hitting my account instead of being able to clear my notifications, which is incredibly frustrating.

The loading / update speed of the site is nice, it's less buggy, but please take the AI answers away - I have no idea why that was even added. If I wanted an obvious answer from an AI tool, I would ask AI myself for it's opinion. I did NOT expect this site to use AI and create AI accounts, acting as users.

The opinions / advice AI gives are in favour of the question asker anyways, in my experience it does not help at all when seeing some information or different perspectives.

The updates were needed, but the design, AI accounts, and colour scheme changes were unnecessary.

Yes the aestetic is ok. And I DO like the new profile quick review.
Making questions easier to ask is like fixing a non existing issue while ignoring the problems. Yes better than before but it was never a bad thing.

The good things said though: I dont like the starting page, I dont like how the 'questions' tab is again not the main page. Why? Its literally what this side and app is all about. Dont try to simulate a full on social media site when thats not what you are. Focus on what you can do and not what would and could work if you where something else.

New logo? Why simpler if you had something with style going for you? Why remove pink and blue names? Thats a main focus of this site so why make it less obvious?
Also any update on bug fixes or were your programmers told to do these things as priority? Fixing non existing problems instead of real ones.

Yeah the pink and blue was cool. I understand we’re lgbtq friendly but I didn’t mind bi or trans using their preferred color or something. It was nice to see pink and blue especially on girls ask guys. Maybe they’re just going to change the name later on though.

It’s possible they’re more concerned with evolving or modernizing they don’t care if users actually liked the classic stuff or how things were running. I think they’re following trends in hopes for marketing stuff or whatever or bigger amplified audiences but this… seems wrong for this site. Maybe I’ll be wrong if more people seem to join or stay… but lots of users have stayed. They leave for personal reasons and the site can’t force people to “make more questions.”

If people haven’t made, didn’t think, or don’t want. Some people just comment, but I suppose they want users to ask more instead of discussing more which can turn to debate and possibly deter other users. But that will always be a 50/50 on all planes with all people and even trolls. 🤷‍♀️

GAG has once again made a bunch of "improvements" that make the user experience worse, not better. There are so many things you could have done that would ACTUALLY improve GAG, but as always you've spent your time and resources on work that no one wanted, no once asked for, and no one will like.

You always ask what users think of your changes, and every time the feedback is overwhelmingly negative. Do you even listen?

There have been many questions over the years about what GAG could do to improve the site, and there have been many good suggestions given by users. I don't recall GAG EVER implementing any of them. Instead, you make unhelpful changes like this latest round and piss everyone off even more.

I think I'm about done with GAG.

As usual, the devs continue to ignore the requests/suggestions of users.

It would be nice to to have an edit option for questions, so you can correct grammar or spelling that you might have missed. Showing revision history would also add to that function, so people can't just take what they say back on a whim.

Allowing voice notes would allow people to make genuine connections and gain a better understanding of someone's question or opinion.

But nah, let's just change the logo and username designs, and make the website version a little more more simple. What a HUGE update 😂 Might as well have not made any changes at all.

Pretty much everyone has been asking for the AIs to be deleted since they added them, I really don't understand why the site owner/s are not listening to this advice. AIs are not the future of technology, they are an annoyance that most people hate.

You didn't mention the AI Bots like Fashionista Amy and Love Doctor Brad. The reaction from users has been almost universally negative and some comments, explanations, etc. from Admin might be very helpful.

I can’t give an opinion anymore. I’ll just say how I personally responded/ reacted:

I used less features now. I’m not excited at all to search around for what was there before. I’m still confused after reading this and I’m guessing some things aren’t there. I liked topics and categories. Didn’t always use them. Once in a blue moon. They were helpful and roadmaps. Now the roadmaps are gone. So back to what I do: I use only two options now. Haven’t checked messages or followings at all. Just stick to the easy to see notification bell and my icon. I think I figured out my icon is messaging maybe profile change option. Don’t remember.

It does feel a bit unrecognizable. That’s the word for me. Feels less simple. Feels overwhelming maybe chaotic or maybe that’s my perception. Definitely gave me some homework I’m not into right now. Like I just won’t go searching around but maybe others will. It’s weird because it’s symbols now instead of words. I have no idea what’s behind anything and what things expand into or go off into so for me it’s a turn off. I find the view question button an eye sore so I don’t look at it anymore and I find the name of site… I don't know I can’t give a word.

I do like the box changed for profiles instead of circles. Seems …. EDGY… lol and maybe the names beside it aren’t so bad. I rather not talk about this update anymore. I am disappointed but I have no idea who asked for this stuff or if it’s the personal wishes of higher ups behind the scenes or

mods themselves maybe they gave requests for this I have no idea.

I will just leave my empty words here: I don’t like it.

Purple and pink buttons really hurt the eyes. It’s like neon pink on blue purple or something on a white background. It’s really not working for me. It doesn’t seem complimentary in this case. Maybe some laser tag room or a gaming app but I’m so… I gotta go lol

The old logo was better - at least for the website. I can't comment about the app because I do not use an app. The old logo was an excellently designed logo and and the tab icon was sufficiently distinct to make it easy to detect in browser tabs. Now, with just the simple purple color, it is easily lost AND misinterpreted.

Here's the dark version of the "favicon" (the icon in the tab):

Up close, like this, it is two arrows. But small like on a tab, you sort of think of a hurricane symbol on weather maps. And, with the negative space being equally dominant, you think of "S".

The old favicon, which can be seen by following the link below, was clean and not mistakeable. It was ideal. In fact, because of the distinctive "pink and blue", it was indicative more of the purpose of the website and connected it's name.

Frankly, I thought the old Girls Ask Guys logo was so brilliant, that I'd use it in an example of logo design if I taught a marketing or website development class.

The new logo, with the purple which may be politically correct because of the pink+blue=purple blended gender concept, appears "phoned in" as if it was a homework assignment in an art class in high school.

Also, it is now a little more difficult to find Blocks and how to issue a MyTake as opposed to Ask A Question.

Not a big deal. I laud the overhaul for attempting simplicity and a clean look like Google's Material Design, but, access to features and clarity need to be equally focused.

That's the original "favicon" that goes in the tab in a browser.
All the white "negative space" is meaningless and doesn't give the brain a reason to pause and wonder about it. Instead, we have simple, clean, pink and blue arrows pointing to each other. Pink for girls pointing to guys and blue for guys pointing to girls. Perfect for "Girls Ask Guys" AND "Guys Ask Girls" which is really what this site is.

With the double fat purple arrows, now it's like "Transgender Ask Transgender" ... if you can get through the "S negative space" between the two fat purple arrows.

Wasn't so long ago in a galaxy you've heard of, I was a coder, and good at that. But my UI designs were mediocre and sometimes awful. I worked with all the teams that spent long nights, trying to figure out what to do and how to do it and directed them at times. I was better at understanding users and strategy directions for products than UI.

So I salute all you coder maniacs, Q/A and UI design engineers on your efforts. The complexity of such systems, to get into production, without substantial defects is impressive... and I'm sure, soon to be across other platforms, OS's, browsers, devices. What a mess of technical complexity... and I've not seen a defect, so well done there!

The homepage I'm still digesting the changes..."somebody moved my cheese" symptoms. Where's the people I follow? I can like a question without reading it and the content? That makes the "like" even more shallow then before.

I'm fine with the male/female color coding, I see it... it's kinda "star trek space age"... ok. I'm surprised you don't have orange yellow for other genders... although that be a quagmire. Not saying you should, but that would add some clarity sometimes.

Functionality that bugs the crud out of me:

* Can't edit after posting or delete.

* Search just doesn't seem to find what I want. We need AI brad there... searching!

* I've often wondered... where is everyone else. There is no way my small circle is all of GAG, we must be segmented into islands of people.

It's lipstick on a pig as others noted. To me, GAG needs re-visioned for more and better human connection, building relationships, addressing issues. It's fallen flat for me, no longer very interesting and I've lost interest.

I could give some ideas, but I'll keep them to myself in case I want to create my own site experiment.

Not a fan of the logo, I actually like the new ui and think others will grow to like it as well but there are certain things about it which are objectively worse.

Like the profile pictures, namely the border around them. Maybe it would look better if it didn't feel so separated from the rest of the content.

My biggest issue is the site has literally no contrast. When I look at my notifications, it's practically impossible to tell what's old/new. The unread messages need to be in bold with a dark background, preferably gender coded or at least purple.

I like the update to the textbox. But I'm annoyed that you never fixed the issue where leaving the page and going back your paragraph is gone.

Sometimes your phone crashes or the site glitches. I forget what this feature is called I think it's essentially device stored cache or something but your textbox writing should persist for at least 24 hours.

Also, you guys announced a new science category and at least in my phone, I've never seen it again. I can't add it to my favorites either. Makes me wonder how many other hidden topics there are.

And of course, as an old school gag member a post like this isn't complete until I bring up how bad I want the down vote back.

Why no more pink and blue names? The colors made the pages pop and feel more interesting. I liked being able to immediately tell male from female. What, is that considered sexist now on a site named Girls Ask Guys?

I HATE that the check marks on the notifications page are no longer there. Why?
I can no longer uncheck notifications and refresh the page to get rid of ones that need no response.

I liked topics and categories on the top bar. Why should I have to take extra steps to find what I want?

The changes didn't "simplify". They made GAG less user friendly and more cumbersome on my laptop.

Well GAG, it's not great so stop patting yourselves on the back, please. Here's what sucks now in my opinion:

*You took away the check mark option on individual feeds.
* You removed the color codes. If you don't want to play into the blue/pink thing for guys/girls, there are better ways to make the delineation easily recognizable.
* The AI's are a waste of space, and they get top billing
* An edit feature within "x" hours would be great, not only regarding opinions themselves but for typos.

However, the biggest problem is you don't seem to listen to your users when they react to your updates negatively, OR when we make suggestions for a positive change. I realize it's not a Democracy and your policies and designs aren't subject to our opinions, but we are the ones using the platform and we're not here to tear it down, but rather to make it more user friendly AND functional.

Agreed. We’re not kids who want some sloppy room. We knew where everything was and found it functional. It’s like entering a new house and I don't know if it’s even better really. I don’t know about that… I want it to work. I’m kinda getting used to it, but now I’ll be honest. I use WAY LESS features now than before. I only stick to notifications and ask there. I haven’t ventured my journey to find a take. I can’t see other takes. I haven’t accessed my profile messages cause I don't know where those were and I haven’t checked progress and followings and such. I’m using TWO features only on this entire site and I come on way less now after the update, and I don’t think I’ll stick around. I’m not threatening or anything. It’s just if it doesn’t really work that much for me then maybe I’m one that’s supposed to be filtered through and find this as a time to move on completely with my life. Just not go on GaG every now and then if I have a question or a wondering or want to see what’s trending. I’ve used this like news and seen what others have said about political and gender stuff. What the people feel, so it has value. I like to see what others wonder about too, and I don’t mind 1% defending claims or arguing lol, but with this newest update it feels like unrecognizable… that’s the biggest word and for me I don't know how I feel about that. It doesn’t seem friendly or simpler to me personally. So far.

What the f***? I hate the changes. They are pointless and they just make the site harder to use. I just got used to the last bunch of pointless changes and now I have to learn to navigate this new set of pointless changes. So frustrating! Why do you keep doing this? Do you just have a bunch of developers you need to keep busy? If that's it, why not have them make some changes that users actually want?

Hilarious and Horrible. Make a logo of that, because the logo change was not even something I noticed due to the new colors of the browser making me feel colorblind. The app was already glitchy and difficult to work and now the web browser and mobile browser have joined it. Usernames are not simplified. Shit is confusing. I can hardly find my messages or the sign out button. You can’t ignore follow requests unless you mark all your notifs as read. Its ridiculous. What happened to my beloved GAG site? Can we get back the good ole site from the good ole days of 2015-2019? The mods werent even as strict back then. This ain't it y'all.

Instead of unnecessary UI updates, when will the updates that users have been asking for be implemented... edit capability, don't show blocked users, further restrict Anon users, lose the AIs that act like they are human?

Been here a long time and to be honest not a fan. Can't get the scroll bar to work for me when choosing a topic on google chrome PC. Can't log in at all on Edge or Mozilla. I feel like there are so many more clicks that have to be made to get where I need to go. So many wasted pages (ex: You click on GAG community and you have three choices ALL -QUESTIONS-MYTAKES) you click on questions and there are 4 that's it 4 questions why? Now I need to click on ALL to see more questions lol makes no sense. Still no edit feature so I can change THEN TO THAN etc etc We need an edit button but hey how you like our new logo? It would be nice to be able to edit our own comments. It would also be nice if more attention was paid to flagging users who single-mindedly tear down people for their sex. I think vicious attacks on both male and female users should be addressed. I recently read a comment on this site from a guy saying that another female user should be raped. There should be zero tolerance for comments like that and the user who does so should be given warnings, and then their account frozen.

The phoniness of the AI cracks me up. It's like Cinderella's fairy godmother or the old Dick and Jane books "Oh! Oh! Oh! What a delightful topic this is! I can't wait to discuss the in's and out's of culinary delights on a romantic evening! Let's delve into the mysteries of cuisine for the purpose of thrilling your partner." It's hysterical.

I don't really have feedback on the changes because they're cosmetic and minor.

I'm happy to say I'm running the app on my android- which still hasn't been updated (yet), so it's still the same interface and look for me! The only thing new is the icon 🤷‍♀️

I'm not being cynical or rude, but gag should account for doing updates on ALL platforms before asking for feedback- just my two cents.

I updated my app on the iphone and only thing that changed is the logo as well. Maybe the app didn't have any changes just the PC version. Let's hope.

Yeah my app updated as well and so far it's the same version as it was, just a new icon. So fyi, for those of you that prefer the older version: use the app; not desktop version (at least until they decide to update it).

Based on the feedback I'm reading so far, I'm in no hurry for them to update the apps; it sounds like a mess

That's really nice you once again neglected to add an edit button so that we could actually change what we say a little bit to reflect our true thinking. It didn't have to be an edit forever button. You could have put in an edit for 3 minutes or 5 minutes button that would have earned you the gratitude of every user on this site. Again, you once again neglected it in favor of cosmetic changes that nobody really cares about very much. Are you trying to drive this site into the ground?

I absolutely do not like the change at all. It feels less like a sex/dating/gender questions site and more like a travel blog or Groupon page. It has lost the smoothness it had, even with the changes a lot of us still didn't like, at least the overall template of the site was decent looking.

I also really don't like the square avatars and the goofy little pink and blue shadows behind them to signify male and female users.

You also can't see how many people already answered a question anymore when you click on it.

I just logged in after being away for a bit, I will say I enjoy it. It feels much more streamlined and simple. I find that getting to things are now much easier on mobile devices, which I’m quite happy about.

One suggestion I have for the GAG team though would be to give us a toggle if we want AI comments to participate in our questions. Personally, I find that real users AKA real peoples opinions are genuinely more helpful than a soulless computer with a script like answer.

That's just my initial thoughts though, I do LIKE most of what this update has to offer though. I’ve read that some users are disappointed that the gender colours are gone though. Maybe you can keep the banner coloring around the profile picture, but also reinstate the pink/blue username colours as well?

I'm happy to provide more feedback as I use the features more, but so far I like it. :)
