Personally, I'm not entirely sure one way or another.

Mensa was founded by two people who were very good at solving puzzles. One man wrote a puzzle, and another man solved it. They decided that if they could use these puzzles to evaluate overall intellect, they could select the best of the best. This is the origins story I'm aware of. But I don't have a high enough IQ to be a Mensan, so take it with a grain of salt.

IQ tests no doubt evaluate a wide range of abilities from understanding abstract concepts and patterns to wordplay ability. Some of the questions are geared towards analytical thinkers, while others are geared towards people who see the big picture.

On the other hand, IQ tests evaluate similar abilities with similar questions. So it certainly seems as though the more questions you are familiar with, and the more experience you've had with manipulmbers, the higher your IQ would be.

IQ tests only evaluate logical reasoning skills. They do not evaluate emotional intelligence. if Intelligence is defined by physical brain matter and/or neurons, there's an argument to be made that a Sociopath with an IQ of 154 is less intelligent then a regular person with the same IQ (less gray matter I believe.) And if intelligence isn't defined by anything as clear cut as physical brain matter and/or neurons, then how is intelligence measured.

People with high IQs do better in life, but is that because they are enrolled in better schools and more challenging courses or because there is something truly different about them?

A study of taxicab drivers in London revealed that intellectual ability could be increased even after the age of 25, when their brains have stopped developing.

Is IQ all it's chalked up to be?

During VBS of 2017, I got assigned to work with the 5-6 year olds and I had so much fun working with them. The other two leaders for the other age groups were lousy. A 13 year old girl was a leader for the 7-8 year olds and they hardly learned anything. My 15 year old sister was a little harsh with the 9-12 year olds. My group won the award for having the best behavior. They were very cooperative and were always paying attention. I just had the time of my life working with those kids.

When I go to apply for a job as a kindergarten teacher, I'll be able to tell them that I have had experience working with kindergarteners.
