Isn't straight hair considered better then curly hair? I heard that curly hair was considered bad so why do I get more compliments then her? You see my mom used to perm my hair all the time but when it was permed no one said it was pretty or anything. In middle school I stopped getting perms because my hair was short. It grew back but my parents are disappointed that I didn't want to perm my hair now that it's down my shoulders. My family ( and most black people with curly hair) say that straight hair is better and curly hair is ugly. But when it grew out and was styled differently suddenly I'm getting compliments on my hair but my sister doesn't and she has straight hair. Why? Isn't her hair better since its straight by society standards? I even see people trying to have hair like mine and I'm shocked because I thought my hair texture was suppose to be ugly. I'm confused.. Even from strangers I'm getting them? :/

My junior prom is May 21st and I have a dress.
It's lavender, floor length, has spaghetti straps that cross in an X on my back, slightly form fitting and it has 2 slits up the side to show a darker purple (Just so you have an idea of what it looks like)

What style should I do my hair in? (It's naturally curly) The dress is similar to the one below but mine doesn't have the sparkly shit.

My mom says straight hair is beautiful. And I've heard that it's the best hair texture to have out of all the hair textures in the world. ( what black people tell me) It's just overall better. ( according to black people) So when I was getting my perm I thought yeah I'm finally going to be beautiful. I'll be the girl who gets a ton of compliments on my hair. But when I went to school no one said anything. No one said I was pretty, or anything. Instead I was ignored/ laughed at. When I had straight hair no one said anything expect I was ugly.

So my perm grew out. And went back to nappy/ black hair. I got more compliments wearing my natural hair then wearing straight hair. Isn't that crazy? But I get more compliments when I wear curly weave. Yeah, my hair can curl naturally but I'm still trying to find out how to keep it in there.

Is straight hair still cool, hip in style? Or did I look bad in straight hair and just look better with curly weave/ wearing my natural hair? I thought that if I had straight hair I'd be pretty but people told me I looked bad I thought I was fitting the standard of what's hot. So I basically look better with my natural hair texture? :/
