So i met him on a cruise and we hit it off really well. He is the first boy that i have ever felt like this for and he is always on my mind. We would talk for hours until 2-3 in the am and hang out, look at the stars, cuddle, and just smile while staring at eachother. I think he is perfect and he compliments me all the time. He tells me that he cares a lot for me and wants to see me again and we were talking about dating and getting to know eachother better so that we could be a strong couple. He was super polite and very protective over me. If another boy talked to me and tried to flirt he would get super protective and kiss me in front of them. Just being close to him my heart was going crazy and i became really attached to him. He would wake me up in the morning and we would spend the whole day together. We sat in my room for hours just saying everything that we liked about eachother. He said that he had feelings for me that he couldnt explain and couldnt bear to see me cry. As soon as the cruise was over everything changed. Within 2 days of us keeping in touch he told me that "logic hit him" and that we couldnt keep a relationship because he didn't know if he could get time off to come see me because i live 5 hours away and he is starting college soon on top of the job that he has. He doesn't have a lot of money and he thinks that it won't work out. He told me that he didn't want to loose me in any way shape or form out of his life but he tells me he wants to be friends. He asked me what i thought and i told him that i was hurting and that i with in his eyes that i was worth the effort to at least try and make it work instead of giving up so fast but in return he told me, that he doesn't think im not worth it because im worth so so so much and it is just can't happen with what is comming up in our lives. Our families plan to meet up soon and im kind of scared to see him because i dont know what to say or how to act because i know my feelings for him are not normal.

This guy I've been talking to, he's very nice to me but not over the top or anything. For example, I told him I needed more clothes and he said, Im sure you look good in anything and said I was too cute etc. and that's how he usually "flirts", like in a more subtle way to me. I think his way of flirting is more like joking around like he'll call me silly names like loser or says I'm lame and I know he's just kidding. I just wanna know if you guys do this a lot when you're into a girl and why do you tend to do it? I have no problem with it to be honest, I like the joking around but I'm just curious. I also already know he likes me because we met on a dating site and have been texting all the time, I just wanna know how many guys really do that :)

BUT every time we see each other, he flirts with me a lot. i have never reciprocated because im scared i misread all the signals and would make a fool of myself. but even my friends have picked up on his flirting and the last time i saw him he complimented me a lot and was initiating conversation with me and trying to get attention when i would talk to our mutual friend (also a guy).
he is coming to my bday in a couple of weeks... pre drinks at the hotel room as a group then clubbing.

what form of flirting is MOST effective? vote and comment

a) at a distance flirting - eye contact and smiling
b) initiating conversations and eye contact
c) light touching here and there..., laughing at his jokes but nothing over the top
d) make eye contact, look him up and down then smile and look away, lingering touches, compliment back if he does, laugh at jokes, initiate conversation, break the touch barrier with lingering touches on the forearm, thigh etc.
