My fellow musicians, can you read standard notation? I always wondered if people can really make it far without learning it.

To tell you a bit about myself, I have been playing guitar for a long time but I'll be honest... I didn't learn the right way. I found TAB music which is like sheet music for dummies. I've made it this far with that and just learning by ear.

I didn't really care about learning standard notation until recently when I wanted to go back to school. I looked in to a music school and they sent me literature describing the curriculum and what I would use in those classes. They use a program that let's you write in notation. A good portion of the classes use this to turn in assignments. When I saw this I knew immediately I had to figure it out on my own before I shell out money.
