I got out of a long term relationship almost six months ago and I am now ready to get back into the dating world. Unfortunately I am “rusty” when it comes to reading signals of interest from women. I’ve read a few articles on the internet but some contradict the others. So, I’m not really sure.

Okay. Here it goes. It’s long, but I’ll try to keep this short. I met this woman a couple of months ago. She is about 11 years younger than I am. She’s in her mid 20’s and I’m in my mid 30’s. We always seem to have a good positive and light hearted conversation when I talk to her. She smiles at me most of the time before I say hi to her. On the days that she hasn’t smiled at me first, I later find out that she is having a bad day. However, after a few moments of conversation and her telling me what is bothering her she is back to her happy self again. She knows that I am single and she has told me that she is single. I’ve recently noticed that she has started to wear perfume in the past couple of weeks where I hadn’t noticed her wearing it before. I’ve complimented her on the nice scent. She smiles and thanks me for the compliment and tells me the name of the perfume. Some days she wears a different scent. She once told me about a couple of guys who asked her out that she had recently turned down because they weren’t her type. I told her that at least they had good taste. She smiled and thanked me for the compliment. I once accidentally over heard the last part of her phone conversation where she said “I love you” to the other person on the phone. When she hung up the phone, she immediately told me that she was talking to her mom. I hadn’t even had a chance to ask. She never talks about other guys around me other than the ones that she doesn’t like. I planned a trip and was going to be away for a couple of weeks. When I told her that I was going to be away she seemed quite and distant. She later gave me a hug and told me that she would see me when I get back in a couple of weeks.

I tried to exchange phone numbers with her so I could call her while I was away. She accepted mine but didn’t want to give me hers. I thought that seemed odd.

She definitely confused me. I thought that she flirting and showing signs of interest? What about the age difference?

So, I am in the transitional phase of getting ready for my thirties. I have about three years before I turn 30, but seeing that the last three years flew by, it seems 30 is more around the corner than I'd like to think. I did some research about the societal view that "30 is the new 20": something of a phenomenon in today's world.

Essentially, I'm prepping for three oh. And doing the following.

-Eating healthier

-Doing Yoga and Meditation

-Getting rid of phone contacts of people that I'm no longer in touch with. (Numbers of exes, old friends that I had a fall out with and numbers of chicks whose names don't even ring a bell now)

-Revamping my career skills by keeping my eyes open for learning opportunities.

-Un-college-ifying myself. By getting rid of College memorabilia and College related aesthetics so I can be more "minimalistic and mature" according to the words of my sister.

And I need help because I'm having trouble letting go.

My living abode is transitioning from a "dorm-esque" feel to minimalistic and elegant. (I'm a hoarder) Not only have I been hoarding everything from my college years but I've been hanging on to High School crap too. Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) I am very well organized and every single folder of every single class of every single year of my academic life is neatly organized and filed away. Ask me to find something from English class, Sophomore year, High School, and I'll be able to go through a box, find the proper assignments, and those little scan-tron pieces of paper that shows you all the answers you missed, you know, its like abdebcbadebe, and then it has that little vertical line showing you which you circled in incorrectly and your class percentile, yea, I have that next to the homework assignments of the related semesters for those test scores, and this I have wonderfully organized with college crap too. I also have "New Hire Material" of every job I've ever had from Abercrombie and Fitch to actual salaried career jobs.

My sister told me to "JUST...LET...GO!" but I can't. So far, I took 2 garbage bags full of New hire material from everything from Dairy Queen to Banana Republic and dumped it all in the garbage. That cleared like, 2 drawers worth of junk. My sister also told me to "invest in some artistic paintings and take down posters from College days..its more mature looking" So now I'm searching for Van Gogh to replace Belushi drinking Jack.

I need your help, am I being unreasonable or should I throw away all my college crap (and simply keep the textbooks)

The theory is to unclutter your life to attract more things in it: future thinking as opposed to holding on to the past.

I also have a few p*rn magazines in mint condition I want to throw away but I don't like throwing away magazines and the library won't take them (I actually asked)
