I've heard on 60 days in that inmates see touching someone else's property for any reason is a sign of disrespect and it's easy to see why that may be the case.

For me, I agree as I see someone who touches someone else's property without permission as a sign that they don't respect the person enough to stay within their boundaries and acknowledge that the property in question does not belong to them but to someone else. It also wouldn't take much for the person to then resort to taking property that isn't theirs if boundaries aren't set that others are not to touch their property without permission.

I get quite pissed off when others touch my things without a good reason, such as it's in the way or they need more space in a public setting, or I unknowingly took their seat, in which case, I'll be moving and apologize and it's not a problem.

When people enter my office and move things around or go on the computer, I know right away that someone did it because things are not the way I had left them and it tells me that they don't respect my privacy while I'm at work and don't respect my personal items. So it does piss me off when people do that, if I'm there, I won't be shy to tell them to stop touching my stuff or ask them how they'd like it if I started rifling through their personal items without permission.

Do you see it as a sign of disrespect?
