So most people would agree that we argue because some point of information causes dissonance with our current world view and we’re both challenging that information and our world view simultaneously by essentially smashing them together and seeing what holds up. However, sometimes letting go of one’s world view is too terrifying so we seek out information to uphold our world view after it seemingly looses the argument either by integrating the information into our world view or invalidating it as entirely true. We all have friends that can never just accept that they were wrong. So my question is with big social issues like legalizing marijuana, racism, homosexuality, etc. is the social change that we witness the world experiencing simply people giving in to the fact that they can’t hold up their side of the argument any longer and wishing more so for the end of the argument then for the victory of their position? Any thoughts? Am I thinking this through incorrectly?
