Search Results: overcoming shyness

Last night, I announced plans for a series of myTakes about how to overcome shyness. It seems that there is enough interest for me to proceed and while I have an idea of an outline for how I want to approach this, I certainly don't want to assume that every shy guy had the same feelings and conflicts that I had when I was younger.

So. . . I need to ask a question (and I'll probably post questions before each installment.) When you notice a girl and you feel attracted, do you start fantasizing about approaching her? If so, in your fantasy, I am assuming that there is some problem that keeps you from going into action. What are you afraid will happen if you approach her and try to start a conversation?

I am contemplating writing a series of myTakes about how guys can overcome shyness and become more assertive with girls. I am motivated to do this for a few reasons:

1. I have a sense that there are MANY guys on this site who are shy and who would like to overcome that.

2. When I was a young man, I was shy AND in college, I was two years younger than my classmates. That made the problem even worse.

3. However, I overcame my shyness. Most women who meet me now would never guess that I had been shy as a young man.

4. If I can help a few young guys to become more assertive, I will feel that I have made a positive contribution to this site.

Overcoming shyness is not easy and it is not going to happen overnight. It is something like losing weight; there are no guarantees but constant and persistent effort over time might eventually solve the problem.

If there is interest in reading weekly installments, I’ll begin in the next two weeks and I think I’ll call my class Shy Guy 101. Are you interested enough to participate? Ladies, is this something that these guys need?
