My girlfriend is a medical student, one year away from the residency match. She has no way of knowing what school, or which part of the country she'll end up in when that happens. I work a very boring office job and am studying for a second degree. If I go with her, I have no idea where I'll end up working, and I have to hope I'll be able to transfer to a school nearby to finish out my degree.

Our relationship is serious. Talking-about-marriage-and-kids serious. It's also pretty strained. We've been distant these last few months given her very strenuous work schedule.

I've always wanted to work in the aerospace industry, hence the second degree. There is a company I spoke to - very enthusiastic about having me - which would pay tuition for my degree program, and as a bonus, put me through pilot training, which has been a dream I never thought I'd have a chance to pursue. Problem being, they're in the middle of nowhere - I'd be leaving everyone behind, and me being nailed down working for them would mean I couldn't move with my girlfriend when she gets matched. This was always my dream, and if I hadn't met her, there would be no question - I'd do it.

I wouldn't want her to feel guilty about me choosing her over this job, which is why I haven't told her about it. I have no idea what the future looks like, following her wherever residency takes her, I just hope I'm making the right choice.
