This may be a little long, but please, read it all before you answer. My husband and I were discussing the apparent increase in anxiety, stress and depression related problems in people over 30-35, especially those over 45.

Without getting into too much medical jargon and science, my theory is that because of the drug use, the 'feel good' chemicals just don't work as they should now. Our brain chemistry has been changed. It takes something now besides life to make us feel happy and content. So the need for all the SSRIs (Prozac, Zoloft, etc) and anti depressants and anti anxiety drugs (Xanax and Ativan, etc.) is needed just to get us back to a 'normal' brain function. Our parents either didn't have these problems to this degree or else they self medicated while no one was watching. But I don't think we are more stressed out or anxiety prone than they were simply because of the times we live in. I believe there is something more to it. What do you think?

I made a poll so it would be easy to answer, but I'd really like to hear some comments, especially from those over 35 and particularly those with personal experience either in their own lives or those of friends/SOs.
