Okay so this guy I don't know added me on Facebook. We had friends in mutual/I thought he was cute so I accepted his request. I followed him on IG, he followed back. There, he has a lot of old photos (from +1 year ago) with a girlfriend. I went into her Facebook and her status says single (his Facebook says nothing about relationship status). He hasn't liked any of her recent photos. She hasn't liked his last 3 profiles pictures (all from the last 6 months). They still @ each other in posts about things like tv shows and food and this kind of thing. From what I've seen on her FB profile, I know she went on a humanitarian mission to Mexico for some months (I think 6), and got back 2 months ago.

If you had to bet on what they are, would you say they're still together, meaning still somewhat romantically involved, or would you say they had an amicable breakup/stayed friends?

Now, on his IG he has A LOT of pictures with a girlfriend. They're all old pictures though and his Facebook profile says single but apparently they're still in contact. Long story short I don't know if they're still together.

We do have a friend in common and I was wondering if it's a good idea to ask about my crushes relationship status to this mutual friend. I'd ask him directly but we have never even said hi to each other before so I guess it'd be awkward. Thoughts?
