The other day I had to interview a few people for an open position at my job.

I look at the first name on the application and it reads.. La-a. So I pronounce it La Ah. She gets an attitude and says it's La dash. AH.

It's not done intentionally. It's just an unconscious thing they do from time to time that people aren't aware of.

Real Life example-
Every night, Karen Sparrow rests her head on her pillow, pulls the covers around her and sucks her thumb.

But Karen is not a toddler trying to soothe herself to sleep. She is a grown woman of 38, with a job as a data analyst and a family — and this bad habit, left over from childhood, causes serious disruption to her life.

While concentrating at her desk, Karen’s thumb creeps into her mouth. Driving in her car, she unthinkingly takes one hand off the wheel to suck her thumb. Once, she even started doing it in a job interview.

I was in front of a panel when everyone started staring at me and I thought: “Did I answer a question wrong?” Then I realised: I was sucking my thumb,’ says Karen, from North London.

‘I apologised and they all started laughing, saying that they’d never seen anything like it before. I was so embarrassed, but I did get the job — I think it made a good talking point!

The habit is so ingrained that, when Karen dislocated her shoulder seven years ago and had to wear a sling — preventing her from sucking her left thumb as usual — she ended up sucking the right thumb instead.

‘I couldn’t not suck my thumb,’ she says. ‘I find it so comforting and relaxing. I do it while I’m watching TV and in bed where it helps me to go to sleep. The only time I feel self-conscious is at work, because I know it looks so childish.’ Clinical psychologist Helen Nightingale says adult thumb-sucking happens automatically and can have a familial cause. ‘It’s often passed down in families,’ she says. ‘It’s highly self- soothing and, as such, it is very resistant to change.’

12% of adults actually suck their thumb.

I am pretty fed up with all this.

I am single, 30, with a job that has barely anytime to go out. I don’t have much friends and the most time I spent with is my dog. I decided to be on dating apps. I am looking!

I met a handle full of people through Tinder and Bumble. I always made myself clear I am not looking for friends with benefits, hook ups, or booty calls. All the guys the came across with which I am interested, is supposed to be on the same page as me. I realized a trend with Instagram and dating apps. Usually guys will ask for my Instagram and we follow each other. Then we start chatting through DM on instagram. The biggest red flag is, they follow a whole list of chicks besides me on Instagram. I see them active online most of the time and sometimes, my messages gets ignored. I’ve been seeing this guy for a few months and he won’t make the next step. I find myself wasting time and he on the other hand, follows new girls on Instagram from the city every day!

I decided to move on, matched with someone on Tinder. We were very interested. Once again, the instagram thing came up, he asked me to follow him... and the same thing... he has a bunch of chicks on there. We chatted on the phone last night, he asked to meet me today. He did mention that his grandma was dying at the hospital and it’s just the matter of time. So, he never messaged me this morning, I was the one who messaged him. I saw him ONLINE on instagram a lot. So I texted him how was his job interview and he got the job. He did not mention about his grandma passing away. After confirming if we’re still meeting up... he said “his grandma passed today and he’s heading back to his city”! Once again, he is constantly on instagram.

I told him if you’re not interested, just say so. But he just said “Things just got really real really quick today. I was genuinely looking forward to meeting with you but these are not circumstances I had control over”...

Is he full of it?

Let's say your boyfriend is tall, handsome and funny who's 21 years old. He's a high school dropout, the highest pay he ever got was 10 dollars an hour at a restaurant and he doesn't have a car. For the first date and you guys had fun.

He'd ask for money from you before so he could buy new shoes, get a haircut or get a ride to a job interview.

He'd thinking about going to college but he hoped you would help pay for his school and stuff like that. He gained a bit of weight as well. When he turns 22 his mother starts giving him a allowance and he's so happy. Would you be OK with dating a guy like this?
