I'm a junior in college, majoring in Vocal Music Education. I'm very involved in several orgs on campus.

Emma and James are two of my closest friends on campus. We met in mock trial two years ago. Last year, both of our captains graduated. Emma and James ran unopposed and took over the positions.

I've always had problems being taken seriously, especially in organizations like these. Part of it has to do with the fact that I'm a music major. People assume that I'm not smart enough to pursue a "serious" subject. Another part of it has to do with the fact that I'm an optimist. I giggle a lot, and I jump around and make funny faces at people just because I can. People generally like me, but I think many of them think of me more as comic relief than anything else.

I discuss most of my ideas with actual lawyers and professors before bringing them up with the team. I've made a habit of doing this since I know people don't take me seriously, so I like to have a plan when presenting ideas. The point is, they're not bad ideas. I make a lot of connections that other people don't, but when I explain them to people who actually listen, they make perfect sense. When my ideas are used, they often end up winning the case for us. My stranger ones have won us awards at tournaments.

Yet this year, any time I bring something up that isn't directly implied in the case, James interrupts me before I can get a sentence out, and Emma just gives me a look of annoyance and tells me something I already know, which she would know I knew if she actually listened. My entire argument is usually why my idea works despite the thing that she tells me.

Some other people on the team have started following their lead. Some are downright condescending. Others are polite, but just repeat what Emma and James said without really listening to me.

I'll put more details in an update. I'd appreciate any advice on what to do.

In the book 'The Tipping Point', Malcolm Gladwell talks about 3 archetypes of people. Which one you are?

1. Connectors make change happen through people. They galvanize people. They’re natural hubs. They love connecting, and are all about people. They think “Who do I know who knows this, who has done this, who can I connect you with?”
You might be a connector if:
* You are constantly referring people to the right expert or service to solve their problem.
* You love networking and talking with people, just for the sake of it.
* When you’re talking to people, they say, “Wow — you know everyone.”
* Stories you tell always focus on the people, not ideas.

2. Mavens make change happen through information and ideas. These are the people you ask whenever you want to know about anything — they’re always the people in the know. They’re builders, engineers, process folks, and system folks. It’s all about ideas and information.
You might be a maven if:
* You often feel overwhelmed because you have so many big ideas to unpack.
* You’re often frustrated by how “thin” a lot of information seems.
* You can get lost for days working on one idea, or spend months happily exploring the depths of one idea.
* Your expression is largely about ideas and information, rather than about people.

3. Persuaders are storytellers and masters of persuasion. They can take an idea, make it sticky and accessible, and position it to get a tribe behind it. They have an uncanny ability to get you to buy into whatever they’re selling, whether an idea, a plan, or product.
You might be a persuader if:
* When you talk about your next project, people are instantly hooked.
* You sell things without meaning to (services, products, ideas — it doesn’t matter what.)
* You love the chase of getting someone to agree with you or buy into whatever you’re selling.
* It’s really easy for you to get hooked on sticky ideas, products, and services.
* Stories have zing, and the information and people support the idea.

This is inspired by another post. I mean no disrespect in asking.

{I recognize we all have different views. I can be surprised by others views and very committed to my own view , without meaning Insult to another person.}

I know people like to joke about this kind of thing though ehh really the humor is lost on me.

I would like to know who here would take it upon themselves (no law jury judge court) go rogue and directly murder another human being. Who without trial, is technically innocent.

For myself, I would not. I recognize the world is full of murder and torture which is how I come to he against it. If it didn’t exist it would he meaningless to be apposed. I do try on my daily life to help these in need and repair what is damaged. Where I can. I admit I am not in any great position to bring about true Change with my personal deed, that is why it is a matter of conscience. Principles carry us through acting with grace, even when we feel powerless. And we rely on others to have the same morals so that we are all not living in hell and least is at least a possibility of change. I am not superwoman I can’t fix the world with a flick of my wrist. Maybe I will make a real difference one day. Maybe not. But meanwhile I can minimally vow against murder as torture. Seems the least I can do. Lol

I recognize this is not an overly common way of looking at the world. Many people may not be against murder or torture per se but rather, pragmatically be against committing Lawless acts. Not for altruistic purposes, but bc the world becomes a very dangerous place when we are lawless.. What if EVERYONE was suddenly offered money to kill.
