Im 26 and going to be buying a condo soon. My sister is 21 and wants to move out, but can't buy a condo yet. I get the sense that my parents aren't completely against the idea. It sounds rude, but if she is living with me then there's obligation to split equity. When I go to sell half of what I make will have to be hers. She has said herself that I could charge her for rent, but that's stupid to me. Our parents are giving her the option to live with them rent free until she can get her own place, but she'd rather have independence. Aside from splitting equity, I'm also concerned about how the idea would affect my social/ romantic life. I feel it would be kinda off putting if a girl knew I had my own place, but wasn't living by myself. Even though it is my place she would know she probably couldn't come over much and there would be no privacy.

Would this be a deal breaker to you?

~ I also hope I don't sound rude. If my sister was living on the street, of course I'd let her come live with me. But she is being given the option to still live with our parents rent free just as I did the same.
