I turned 17 (the age you can give blood in the UK) in December. I've been obsessed with the idea of giving blood for years and I've been waiting for it ever since i found out I could possibly be O-. I brought it up to my parents before my birthday and they were both strongly against the idea, saying how im too pale for it, that i don't have enough blood as it is, that i don't need to be playing saint and i should look after myself first. See, being the stubborn teenager who knows better, i went and made the appointment anyway. Before this though, my mum had me do a nutritional blood test which came back saying all my levels were within the normal ranges, though this still didn't change her mind regarding the donation.


The part my parents don't know, however, is that I did it partially because it was 650 calories gone out of my system. I maybe have an undiagnosed eating disorder, as well as body dysphoria, but i don't really care about my well being. I was just happy to see the calories literally drained out of me.


My mum didn't know i donated until a couple days ago when my donor card came through the post and she wasn't happy at all. She still thinks im anemic and that no wonder why I've been fainting all over the place (i got light headed once and it was before the donation anyway.) My dad doesn't really mind because he donated a few times when he was in the army, so it's not as big of a deal in his eyes.
