According to the CDC in drowning fatalities black children out number white children by three. I know it is a racial stereotype that black people can't swim, which is of course false as we have Gold metal swimmers like Cullen Jones. It isn't that black people can't swim but we as a society are failing to teach many black children to swim.

The article above details a story of 6 drowning deaths in Louisiana. One young mother lost all three of her children. The UK shares a similar problem citing figures as high as 70% of black people not being adequate swimmers. As discussed in this article.

Why does this continue to go undiscussed or corrected? Swimming is a necessary lifesaving skill. Is it because of the underlying racist ramifications? I'm more than willing to be called a racist if it means correcting this injustice that plagues our society. To a parent there is little that is less horrifying than having a child drown.

What can we do to make it better? Should swimming be taught in Kindergarten?

I asked this before, but the baby's father is threatening to take my baby once its born. I'm 6 months along. I don't have a job as of now and I did used to do drugs (weed) but I stopped once I found out I was pregnant. I still sometimes drink occasionally, but not hard liquor just beer. He says I'd be a bad mother and he doesn't want his child growing up in my environment. I live in a very poor dangerous area of New Orleans and he lives Uptown in a rich safer area. His parents are both lawyers and he went to Tulane for school and is currently in medical school. I don't really have much of an education. I graduated high school but never went to college and went straight to work afterwards, but I got fired because I was late all the time (mostly getting high with friends).

I know it may sound bad, but I love my baby so much and I'm looking for a job but no one wants to hire a pregnant girl. One thing I can't stand about the dad is he thinks he's better than me, and that I'd raise the baby to be a delinquent cause I'm black and poor and because he'll grow up in my area (live in the ghetto) and probably get shot by the cops or end up in jail. He's fucking racist. He showed his ass with that comment. Racist white mentality that I'd be a bad mother because I'm poor and black and if I raise it, he won't turn out any good (the baby is a boy). I admit I've done bad things in the past but I'm trying to do better.

Either way I'm scared he could take my baby and I don't want him raised with a snobby racist who will teach it black boys are either going to end up in prison or dead if their moms raise them. Is there a chance he could win if he takes this to court? I don't have any money to pay for custody battle and with me not having a job and with my history could he win? His parents are lawyers and I'm so scared.

I asked this before and everyone of you believed he should have custody. I think I can maybe move with some family up in Shreveport, LA and stay and raise my baby there
