For my present to my boyfriend this year for Christmas, I bought him Halo 4. He specifically asked for it when I asked him what he wanted.

In addition to the game, I am taking him to dinner this Saturday. We're going to an authentic Italian place and it's rather expensive. I saved up for it all year. The dishes are like $20-$40 a piece not including dessert and drinks. But I know he really likes food - good food, that is. His family is rather well off and he always goes out to eat at nice places, but he's never been here.

After the dinner, I've arranged for a horse and carriage ride through the downtown area. I personally like horses and I enjoy that sort of thing, so it's kind of a gift to me as well.

I've arranged this with his mother and have only told him to clear his evening on the 15th. He has no idea that I've planned anything.

Any yes, of course I will be paying for the entire evening...Though I might ask him to drive since his GPS in his car isn't as...moody as mine is.

Anyway, lame idea or good idea?

I always feel lame just buying something for him.

I'm trying to pick stuff that he actually needs and would have a use for. My ideas are the following

Note: I already purchased a ski socks 2-pack (wool socks). They're excellent quality, seem very comfortable and he liked those I gave him last year.

Note2: Can't buy him new underwear because his mom does the laundry. Can't buy him a watch, he already owns one with sentimental value.

Any other ideas are welcome since HIS birthday IS IN January TOO!
