This happened to me a few years ago, but it's a situation I've often revisited in my mind, wondering how things might have gone if I'd acted differently. So I'd be curious to see how other people would have reacted.

So I was living in a house in a relatively upscale area of town. Low crime, that sort of thing. One night during the week, around 3am, there is a loud commotion outside my front door. There is a girl trying to get into my neighbor's house. Not my neighbor. She is knocking on the door, really loudly. Smacking the bell. Opening the letter box, and shouting in.

She doesn't sound drunk but she does sound very upset. I know the girl who lives next door, but only to see. I know she's dating a guy, so this isn't a girlfriend thing. This goes on for about 15-20 minutes, and by now I'm wide awake. I'm also aware that it's freezing at this time of the year. 32F, 0C, type weather.

Either the neighbor is the worlds heaviest sleeper, or she's not in, or she really really doesn't want to open the door to this girl.

So what to do?

Do I go back to sleep, and ignore the drama?

Open to door to get more information?

Invite her in out of the cold, and let her crash in my place for the night?

Something else?

I'll let you all know what actually happened, in a few days, if anyone is interested.
