here is a situation:

so I meet this girl at a local sporting event and we chat , and then add each other to our Facebook and MySpace.

she is very open about how she has no interest in relationships at the current time and since then she has told me its due to her last two relationships being really bad.

she didn't have tickets to the last game of the season and people were offering to let her use their extra ticket but she turned down several people since she only wants to go with her parents and her sisters. she would have rather watched it at home then leave them home.

so I have had a good month making money so I decided to buy her 5 tickets for her family in the upper level. And I gave the five tickets to her to be nice and don’t expect to be paid back but I wouldn’t mind being paid back. I relate to how she only wanted to go with her family and she seems like a nice girl so I met up with her and gave her the five tickets. She plans to pay me back but we’ll see. Anyways she really liked the fact that I was nice to her and her family. She doesn’t have a job…that’s why she couldn’t afford the tickets…I made 2000$ In a week so spending a few hundred didn’t phase me.

Ever since then we’ve been talking more and she wants to hang out…but then again she brought up one night how another mutual friend of ours is hitting on her and its annoying her since she could have a guy but doesn’t want one since her last relationships were bad.

So I tell her I’m the same way…and that all women like douche bags but women want to turn a douche bag into a nice guy when it rarely happens so I don’t look to date anyone due to that…anytime soon. Though I want this girl…lol

So then we get to talking and she goes from men being worthless douche bags to her telling me what 5 things she likes in a guy to date.

They were honesty, sincerity, loyal, faithful and like the same sport as her…which I meet all 5 lol.

Then I tell her I also have the same thing in a girl that she needs to like the sport I like and I have a thing for a woman in a hockey jersey…

So what to make of this. This is obviously a girl who has a guard against men since she apparently has been hurt…we talk about hanging out and such…but I assume its just as friends…don’t really want to scare her off by being too aggressive but don’t want to be classified as a friend…so what steps should I take…I figure I will take her out for a fun time and just be a good guy to hang with…but not too often.

I've always been fascinated with the "nice guys finish last" and "the jerks get the girls" debate. Let's set up a little scenario.

Two guys, both are considered very good looking. Every variable besides their personalities are the same.

Guy 1 is more of the shy, quiet type. He treats everyone with respect, and isn't full of himself. He doesn't talk much at first, and isn't very social, but can open up at times when he's comfortable. He doesn't like to draw attention to himself, and his shyness may get the best of him at times, but everyone who knows him has great respect for him and say he's a nice guy.

Guy 2 is the social butterfly, a smooth operator and knows the right things to say to a woman. Sometimes this confidence gets the best of him, and he can come off a little jerkish and can get on people's nerves at times. But, he is the epitome of a confident attitude and everyone knows of his presence.
