My current company, a large tech company, initially rejected me for an internal position I had applied for because I wasn’t qualified. But the people on that team like me, so they CREATED a position for me that was more in line with my skill set. I interviewed for it last week. Coincidentally, another job I had applied for and interviewed for (when my current company first rejected me), had me in for my final interview last week as well. The internal position is recruiting coordinator (with the potential to be trained as a recruiter) and the external one is an administrative assistant to an executive assistant in the marketing department at a high profile cancer research institute.

The outside company that I interviewed with extended an offer. However, there were some red flags such as my potential manager (the exec assistant) calling me the day before my final interview and telling me how to act, what information I should include in my answers, and to dress professionally.. Then, after she had me meet with another person, she pulled me aside and asked me exactly what I was asked, and how I answered. That night, she wrote me an “informal” email with the offer, and when I didn’t respond, she texted me at 6:58 am asking me to check my email and give her a response by the end of the day. Then, when I still didn’t answer (because I was torn between the 2 opportunities) she called me at 12pm and also had the director of talent acquisition call me. I let both of those go to voicemail, but because of the pressure I was feeling, I ended up writing a rejection email. :/ The recruiter said I can have the weekend to think about it, and let them know if I change my mind on Monday.

My current company has not even extended an offer, and I’m not sure how soon they will. But at my current company, I already know and like the people, so that felt important to me.. but the other one might have been a better career move, I’m not sure..
