It's no secret that a large amount of the taxpayer's money that goes into healthcare is actually used to treat obesity-related diseases.

Most of the time, obesity is due to people who refuse to control their diet and end up getting lifestyle diseases such as diabetes. Excluding the ones whose obesity is out of their control such as those with cortisol imbalance, the rest of them can actually do something about their weight. This is not discriminating against fat people but simply them needing to take responsibility for the result of their own choices.

On a similar note are smokers. Unlike obesity, there is no medical reason for anyone to be smoking and is completely a lifestyle choice. They are not misinformed because it even states on the package all the consequences of smoking and they still ignore them. It's not like there is no support for those who smoke because there are free programs that are designed to help them get rid of their addiction and yet a lot of them refuse. At this point the diseases they get from it are not simply 'unfortunate' but in fact self-inflicted. They continue to smoke despite knowing the consequences so they should take responsibility for their own choices.

In countries such as the UK where I'm from all citizens are entitled to free healthcare treatment but I feel that it is something they do not deserve. In other countries that actually require payment, I think they should pay more than everyone else because it is the result of their own choices.
