Milo is 13 years old and deaf. When he was younger, a kid asked to see his hearing aid, then threw it out of the window. Milo nearly started crying. He was excluded, put down, and at some point people would stop talking to him once he asked them to repeat themselves. Milo even became mute once kids made fun of his deaf voice or asked him to talk like a normal person. When 7th grade started, Milo was in so much pain that he avoided his peers.

A kid named Dustin started talking to him. At first, Milo avoided him, but after seeing Dustin learning how to sign, Milo was willing to do whatever to keep Dustin happy. Dustin tells Milo he's gay and asked to hold his hand. Milo said no. Dustin looked upset, so Milo did it. Even kissing Dustin on his cheek. Milo did whatever Dustin and his friends wanted to do. Milo hates going to the movies, but he goes anyway. Milo would make them lunches, clean up after them, and never said anything about what he personally wants to do. Milo would also lie about a cure for deafness whenever his Dustin or one of his friends seemed annoyed by him.
