The student I'm talking about is the current top candidate for the French Presidency, Emmanuel Macron, who's married to Brigitte Trogneux, almost 25 years his senior. They first met at La Providence High School in Amiens, when he was a 15yo student in her class, and she was his 39yo teacher, married at the time to another man with three children. She taught Latin, he attended her literature classes and she was in charge of the theater class he attended. Emmanuel describes their student-teacher relationship as "a love often clandestine, often hidden, misunderstood by many before imposing itself".

Macron’s parents initially believed that their son was actually going out with Brigitte’s 2nd child and elder daughter, Laurence, who's the same age as Emmanuel (her son is two years older than him), and was a classmate of his, in the class taught by her mother. They were stunned to hear the truth, and told Brigitte to stay away from their son, trying to split them up by sending Macron to Paris to finish his studies, but that didn’t work. Officially (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) they only became a couple after she divorced her husband in 2006 (he was 17 at the time), and married in 2007, immediately after he turned 18. But Brigitte is quoted as saying “Nobody will ever know at what moment our story became a love story. That belongs to us. That is our secret.”

Brigitte plays an active role in her husband's campaign, with advisers saying that "her presence is essential for him". She is also rumored to be "one of the few people he trusts", attending all of his agenda meetings and instructing Macron every step of the way. Macron states that if he wins his bid on the French presidency, his wife "will have the role that she always had with me, she will not be hidden".“If I’m elected — no, sorry, when we are elected — she will be there, with a role, and a place,” Macron says. “I owe her a lot, she helped make me who I am.”
