Katie Holmes decided she didn't want to reprise the role, so someone had to take her place if the character was going to be continued, but I think the script could have been rewritten to remove the character and while I do think Maggie Gyllenhaal is a good actress, she was jarring as a replacement to me. She was just too far away from the original.

There are few female comedians out there and if you have seen them, you will notice that they are kinda boring. Sometimes they can be funny but it's mostly the same jokes and everything is about either sex or relationships or their ex-partners. I haven't still seen a single show of a female comedian without sex or relationship jokes, if you know any point out, please.
There are few comedic actresses but movies are very different from stand-up comedy. Movies are highly scripted and repetition of takes can make acts more perfect. Doing it for a live audience or on a date or talking to someone can be tougher.
