In The Dark Knight trilogy, was anyone else unhappy with the recasting of Rachel Dawes?

Katie Holmes decided she didn't want to reprise the role, so someone had to take her place if the character was going to be continued, but I think the script could have been rewritten to remove the character and while I do think Maggie Gyllenhaal is a good actress, she was jarring as a replacement to me. She was just too far away from the original.

It was "okay" to me. Not great but not huge. I think removing her and giving Batman a new love interest would have been better. But I don't know the timing of these things and how far they got into production. In the end, it's still one of my favorite superhero films and one of the few I actually like so I think it's "okay".

I think it did detract from one of the greatest scenes in that film where Batman had to choose between Harvey and Rachel with the Joker's presented dilemma. Losing Rachel didn't have nearly as much of an impact as I think it could have had with a new actress in place.

I used to love Katie Holmes growing up when she was on Dawsons Creek and First Daughter. But i realize now, her acting is so one dimensional. She boring af and even though i dont care for recasting nor Maggie, at least Mag brought the character to life

She had a good take on it. I just felt like it pulled me out the movie with the differences.

I think what annoys me more is recasting with a different race. Just kill the person off or make a spinoff. Dont expect us to think thats the same person
