My mother and I are at a total cross road on what to do. My step father for over ten years has been without a job for over a year now. I've witnessed his "we're gonna be okay stage" to his current depressive/anger stage. He claims to look for jobs, and sometimes he does, but most of the day he sleeps or plays games. He claim to be constantly sick, but won't get help for his "illnesses." He spends real money on these games (100$ or more) and all these things we don't need, and takes everything out on us when we dont "appreciate" his "gifts." He critiques everyone, but won't acknowledge his own flaws unless it get him sympathy or a reason to put guilt on others. I love him. I hate him. My mother loves him. My mother hates him. My mom works at a job she hates, and this man won't take anything for offer. I'm working part time at a job that just seriously cut back my hours, and im looking for another part time job to help my mom get by on the small bills. I also have school. Me and my mother try everything to help ourselves get by, and work hard for our time off together. He won't join us or be a part with us anymore, and we're stuck. We dont want lose him, but I certainly won't let my mother baby him the rest of her life. What would you do?

My mom and I were on the phone earlier, and she declared that when my grandmother dies, she's moving in with me. When I asked her why she couldn't live on her own, she said she shouldn't have to, that's why she had me and my brother.

Now, my mom is NOT easy to live with. Growing up, she only really dealt with me and my brother if it would garner any attention or recognition (I. e. "Your kids are so cute!"). Classic narcissist, really. In college, after she and my dad divorced, she became worse. She would steal my checkbook and start paying bills out of my account (she would spend the money she made on her hair and outfits). If I was studying and didn't have time to wait on her hand and foot, she'd throw temper tantrums and throw my notes and books away.

A few years ago, she quit her job and declared that she will never work again because it's my brother's and my responsibility to provide for her. Did I mention how high maintenance she is? She wants a new Jaguar or equivalent luxury vehicle every couple of years. She only does brand names, and because she doesn't cook and refuses to eat other people's cooking, she eats out a lot.

Any time we're in the same vicinity (we live in different parts of the country), we fight. When I flew down for Thanksgiving after sustaining a bad concussion from a car accident, she attacked me, kicking and punching me in the head because I wouldn't tell her who I was texting. When my grandfathers died the same week, she told me I had to choose, but if I chose my dad's father, I'd be kicked out of the family.

She also likes to sabotage any relationships my brother and I forge with other people, whether it's the one we have with our dad or ones we've established with our respective partners. Basically, we're only supposed to be involved with her, and we only exist to serve at her mercy, working hard to support her extravagantly lazy lifestyle.

Am I wrong for telling her no, there's no way in hell I want her living with me?
