I always thought the concept of loving yourself was selfish and extremely narcissistic. So, I never really tried it.

But I can't help but notice the fact that the more I try to please others and think about others happiness instead of mine, I don't really go anywhere with them. In fact, I notice that my kindness pulls them away.

Meanwhile my sister who doesn't even like people, keeps a small strict social circle and never had to ask men out because they always threw themselves at her. I've never had a guy do anything for me, especially after they've known me for a while.


People say I'm nice but that's about it. I get told I'm fake a lot. It's really starting to get under my skin.

That's why I'm starting to consider doing some changes to myself.

My older sister used to be a HS and college cheerleader, several inches taller than me and popular. She would get hit on a lot and she was friendly and just wanted to be loved beyond just looks.

She met her then boyfriend (now husband) during her college years. The guy was her male counterpart in the looks department. I admit he's still handsome. Shortly after her college graduation, she got into an accident. A drunk driver collided with her car. Some pieces of glass fell on her face. She underwent surgery, lost part of her looks (she's ok now but average... still has a couple facial scars).

The surprising part is he proposed after she recovered. He wanted her even after the accident. To him, she's still his 10/10. They've been married for 6 years now and have a 2 year-old daughter. Is a guy like that rare?
