I posted a question recently about a high school classmate for whom I lusted as a teen. She was HOT! I met her years later and she had gained 200 pounds. I commented that she was still a wonderfully sweet and sincere person but I felt absolutely no attraction to her.

A number of users responded to advise that I, indeed, am a shallow, shallow man and my username should be revoked. Yes, they told me that I am lower than a snake's belly and my heart is colder than a well digger's ass. Apparently, I was "supposed to be" attracted to her because she is a good person and I am "suppose to" ignore the fact that she is now as large as a small John Deere.

The problem with becoming as virtuous as my critics is that physical attraction is something over which I have no conscious control. I can't "decide" to be attracted and make it happen. I could pretend and lie to the girl and tell her how beautiful she looks but that would just be unfair to both of us. How would you feel if you learned, two years into a relationship, that your partner really isn't physically attracted to you?

So. . . what do you do when you meet someone who is nice in all the right ways but simply is not physically attractive to you?

In order to reduce cost, I get my dental work at a university dental school. My primary dentist is a 26 year old student and she has been working with my since December of last year (so about 7 months. It has been rather intimate because it is teeth, it is her vulnerability and fears as a first time dentist, and it is my vulnerability and fears as a patient that hates the dentist. It seems we have taken a liking to one another and unlike the other dentistry students, she is a rare dentist student that has opened up to me about random details of her life. The other students are silent when they have operated on me and dont say much.

There are just 2 DENTAL APPOINTMENTS LEFT.

Last appointment she was winking about me after I asked her about a Birthday trip she told me about. She winked 5 or 6 times.

I called her to schedule a new appointment. She had given me her cell phone number. In our conversation she had an oddly high pitched voice when saying hello. Then she explained the procedure and stuff. It was weird because she had responded to a voicemail I left, but she answered back at 5:30pm... 1 hour and a half AFTER the dentistry is closes. So in this conversation, I replied to her voice message at 6pm...2 hours after. I was expecting to leave a message. Instead of the message going to voicemail, she surprised me with, "Hi Joe!" like almost immediately.

Anyway, after explaining the operation the conversation ended like this:

(Laughing slightly and slowly) Dentist: You caught me while I was making dinner.
Me: Yeah, my cat is currently attacking me. So I guess we are both battling something off.
Dentist: Yeah... Well... I will see you then!
Me: Okay, take care. Bye.

The conversation was a bit odd because she DID NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THE PHONE. She saw who was calling her and CHOSE TO ANSWER.
