I really want a tattoo and I have for a while now, but until now I thought it was impossible for me. One day recently I was thinking about it and I made a realization: i turned 18 months ago, i have a job, I have a car to get there, there's no reason why I can't get a tattoo. So i went looking for designs, i found one I liked, then I did research on tattoo artists in my area and found one who's work I liked. I did research on the best spots, aftercare, how much itll cost etc. I decided to get it on my thigh so it can be covered for work. So everything was going fine, and I decided to tell my dad about wanting one and showed him what I wanted. He replied "what are you going to do when you are 40 and have that thing on you?", I was taken aback, I pointed to his shoulder tattoo that he got when he was my age and asked if he regretted it. He said: "no", so I said: "Well there you go, what makes you think I'd regret mine?" And he just scoffed and said "You can get a tattoo when your an adult and you are on your own.". I'm honestly curious as to how me having a tattoo would affect him in the slightest bit. I am an adult, and I dont think it's fair for him to mention all he's done for me as an excuse for why I can't do as I please with my own body. I'm paying for it, I took care to do my research and find a spot that can easily be covered. This isn't a last minute decision, I've been thinking about it for a while. I find it odd how he said that I should get one when I'm on my own, considering that he got his while he was still living with his parents (he actually has been living with his mom for almost 11 years, so I'm confused as to how he believes that he can have that kind of authority over me when his mom doesn't even have that over him.). So I messaged the artist I want to do my work and I'm currently setting up stuff for that, im wondering whether I should tell him or just get it done on my own. I am getting this tattoo regardless of his opinion.

I made an appointment back in June on a whim. Since then I've had mixed feelings and I don't really know if I even want the tat. This is a new artist/different shop than my other current tats, so I shouldn't feel obligated to get it anyway. Unfortunately he has not showed me the design and won't be done UNTIL the day before my appointment. It's for NEXT Saturday (Sept. 15th)! I don't really have the money saved up and it's really small (2 1/2 by 3in) BUT I hear it will be about $300. Is this ridiculous? It's a little magenta rose! Should I get out of this situation? I might never get this tattoo otherwise!

PS: It's a by the HOUR rate instead of by the PIECE!

I'm getting my first tattoo and I'm very excited. I made an appointment and went over the design with the artist, and the tattoo will be relatively small, about the size of my thumb. The artist said it will be $350. At first I didn't think anything of it because I don't have any price to compare it to. My sister is saying that's extremely pricey though for a small tattoo. I waved her off because I figured paying $350 once was well worth something I'd have permanently. If you have experience with tattoos though, is the artist asking for a lot more than most would? I really like his style so I'm okay splurging a bit but I just want to know what most artists would charge for comparison.
