I am a Progressive Liberal. A guy I know who is a Democrat responded to Republican Senator Susan Collin's speech by saying, "She should no longer pretend to be moderate!"

I agree with my fellow Democrat and said, "Yes. It was a very good and eloquent CONSERVATIVE speech."

I was simply shocked. I didn't think I had said anything controversial. I had agreed with my Democratic friend that this Republican Senator by voting for Kavanaugh wasn't a moderate. Instead, I was vilified for giving a Republican female Senator a compliment.

Is this where we are as a country? Even as a Democrat if you say that a Republican's speech was eloquent or good (I didn't say I agreed with it) then all of a sudden you are called a traitor? If I agree with Trump that NAFTA must be restructured then I am attacked as a traitor for agreeing with Trump?

If you go on dating websites women openly say that if you voted for Trump then "swipe left". Really? You don't even care to find out a man's character and will judge a man based on his political leanings?

Do we really as a country live in so much of a bubble that we see people with different political ideas as enemies?

I firmly support it, as I do the Second Amendment; and freedom of speech in the First Amendment, even for flag-burning, Nazism, Communism (including Stalinism and Maoism), black supremacy and holding a fake decapitated head of the President (like Kathy Griffin did).

I don't agree with banning guns nor limiting free speech, as both would lead to totalitarianism; but at least people who do have their idea of achieving the greater good in mind. I can't think of ANYTHING sympathetic nor excusable about using any crime as an excuse to make ANYONE suffer. 'Cruel and unusual' punishment is exactly what, regardless of the offense.
