Let’s spread that positivity around because life feels so much better when you see the bright side of life! I’m not saying to be completely ignorant and pretend life is all rainbows and sunshine because you’d be lying to yourself if that’s the case. If you feel like you're missing out on happiness and aren’t entirely sure how to achieve this state of emotion, allow me to give you my examples of how I maintain a happy lifestyle, despite all the negativity going around and reality being a pain all the time. This MyTake was inspired by @Omar5881 with his question about the matter earlier so I wanted to thank him a lot for the idea! With that said, here are my top picks for maintaining/achieving happiness in your life (not in any particular order):

1) Indulge in your favorite food/drinks; in small amounts

While this may not seem like much, being able to treat yourself with foods and drinks you like helps maintain your happiness level or serotonin in scientific terms in short bursts. It’s very easy to obtain but be careful not to abuse overeating/over-drinking too much as this can lead to health risks such as obesity and heart failure!


2) Do the activities you love

We all have hobbies and interests we like to pursue on our own free time or with someone! When we engage in them, we feel like we’re being ourselves; that it’s our best source of easy entertainment! Just be sure that they are activities that you can afford and that you don’t get too addicted to it if it affects your life in a negative way!


3) Be able to express your mind freely to someone non-judgmental

Sometimes, we feel the need to rant or discuss about something serious and it’s a comforting feeling when you have someone you can talk to who won’t judge you for your thoughts and feelings. When you know there is someone who’s supportive of you in this aspect, it takes a lot of stress off your mind and puts it in ease which is what we’re looking for!


4) Compliment people all the time

When you take the time to compliment or praise someone for an achievement or something about them that you favor, it not only makes the person you told this to feel good about themselves but it’ll make you happier knowing you’ve improved someone’s day, even if it’s just a slight amount! You don’t have to practice coming up with lines to say to people; just let it naturally come to you! When you get into the habit of doing this, other people may catch onto it as well spreading a whole lot of positivity around.


5) Think logically and emotionally during arguments

It’s really easy to get into emotional outbursts from an overwhelming amount of pressure and stress. When this happens, instead of giving into your emotions with yelling or getting violent, just take a breather and think things through. You’ll feel a lot better when you don’t accidentally say or do something you may end up regretting later, especially if another person is involved. Being able to continuously do this will make you feel more confident and happier in knowing you can be emotionally independent and help others out when needed!


6) Be realistic about reality but don’t dread upon it

There’s no way life is going to be perfect; accept the reality around you but don’t believe that it’ll never get better. Analyze your lifestyle and think positivity about what you can do to make it better! If it’s something out of your control, write down what you don’t like about your current situation and see what you can do to either make it as tolerable as possible or change it if it becomes unbearable! We all want to live a happy life; just note that life will not always be in your favor and we have to make the best of what we have!


7) Spend time with your loved ones; family, close friends and even your lover

When you spend time with people you are close to, you feel you aren’t alone and know that there are people who enjoy your company and love you unconditionally! We all want to feel like we are a part of peoples’ lifes; that we matter to them! There’s no better way of ensuring this feeling than to make time for them and catch up with them as well!


8.) Spoil yourself once in a while

Was there something expensive you always wanted to purchase, a place you always wanted to go to or to participate at an event that you’ve been looking forward to? Perhaps you want to binge play video games with your closest friends or go on a shopping spree to feel fresh in new clothes! It’s always a nice feeling when you feel like you deserve to spoil you once in a while! However, be careful not to spend over your budget and end up in debt later!


9) Get that load of stress off; solve the problem

It’s almost impossible to achieve a state of happiness if there’s a problem that’s so stressful and nerve-wrecking that you can’t feel the need to relax until it’s resolved. If you know there’s a problem that can’t be ignored/avoided and it’s becoming intolerable in your life, you need to take the initiation to solve the problem whether it’s a change in lifestyle, behavior, moving on and such.


10) Find ways to bring laughter in your life

Laughter is an instant vacation as someone once said; that you feel so relaxed and laid-back that you mentally are available for a good joke or three! When you laugh sincerely, it makes you feel good that you can relate to others and aren’t alone in the world thinking you’re mentally insane! Laughing in general feels so nice; why wouldn’t anyone want to do this at least once in a while?

Everyone wants to feel appreciated and loved for who they are and what they achieve in life! When you feel important by someone, you feel like you have a purpose; that someone wants you to go out and be the best you can be! This could be in the form of a relationship with someone or with a close family member/friend who wants to be supportive of you all the time!


12) Sleep to the stars!

You wouldn’t believe how many people I know get a lack of sleep on a daily basis and don’t feel at their best, feeling somewhat cranky or tired throughout the day. When you get your full night’s sleep, you feel much more energized and active to think clear and be in the mood to exercise and such. Getting 7-9 hours of sleep per day is absolutely critical to maintaining not only good health but happiness as well!
