Julian then continues by associating this blood with water, a traditional biblical allusion which now, however, takes on a new relevance. Not only do both water and blood flow from Christ’s side during the crucifixion, they flow also from the similarly opened body of the birthing mother.
Just as the mother’s labour brings forth new life along with blood and amniotic fluid, so Christ through his labour on the cross and his exuding of blood and water gives birth to human redemption."

Indeed, this goes for menstrual blood too, which has been proven to have the potential to save lives:


So menstruation can be seen as a cyclical reminder of women's connection to God and Christ (or, for pagans, any of the other many Divinities who are said to have menstruated) as well as the cycles of nature. Indeed, the content of menses is the endometrium, which is the place in which the zygote first implants - all humans' first home. Regularly, women are exposed to the Source of Life & reminded of their sacred status as the Vessels of Life, and their potential to help God bring souls into the world.

Just a note, recognizing that women's capability as Lifegivers and Lifenourishers is valuable, doesn't mean that I'm implying that this is "all women are good for." Women are good at many other things too; this is just one thing women have the capability to do that men don't.

And even if you dont want kids, menses still reminds women they can bleed & not die, which is badass.

This is basically a bandaid solution that is keeping the wealthy, wealthy, and keeping low-wage, old-school jobs in America.
