Search Results: how you treat your significant other

Have you ever had a friend, family member, associate, someone (that's the same gender as you), that treated their significant other ( that's an opposite gender to you)like dirt?

...And that significant other has been with them (your friend/ associate/family member, ect.) so long, may be so afraid to leave, may be so used to being treated that way, etc. that they're still there.

...But then they get around you. You talk to them [the S.O.] with the respect they deserve, you may give them a shoulder to cry on, you lend them a listening ear, you love on them, you encourage them, you lift them up, you show them the gem of a person they are, they get everything with you that they're not getting at home and then some.

...To the point that they start to want you, to the point they realize that who they're with doesn't have their best interest in mind like you, or will love them like you do.

...Maybe through this time they [the S.O.] may express how they feel towards you, you may begin to have deepening feelings for them as well.

...But the thought that they [their S.O.] are still with someone else is in the back of your mind, you don't want to cause any problems or trouble...but you want the best for them too...

So what do you do in this situation, or something similar?

I've had similar situations like this, and feel I will run into another one.

I just want to know how others would handle it.
